Large Scale Central

Red Flag Warning

Red Flag Warnings went up today. Conditions were just right for wildfires. Temps in the mid 80’s, low humidity and winds 10-15mph. The guys got the fire cars hooked up and were ready to fight any fires that started. The Forest Service had the fire tower up today. Fueling up at the yard and waiting for any smoke.

First fire of the day along the spur to the Howell mine. Fire was contained.

Second fire of the day on top of the Cumberland Gorge. This was close to the tracks and the trestle.

Close call, fire almost got crossed the tracks and came close to getting the cars. The guys almost lost this one.

At Camp Kittatinny taking a lunch break until the next call.

Great pics Shawn and story as well

LOL! Cool story and pics. Looks like one of your squirrels was overcome by smoke inhalation though.

That’s great
Ralph

Better check the firehouse. I heerd it caught fire while youse guys was out playin’.

Great photos!

Nice work Shawn hope you catch the firebug soon

Shawn, somebody is setting fires on your railroad. Drop the camera and hit the SOB with something. Hell, use the camera.

I think you need a ‘rooster with attitude’ to patrol the line while trains aren’t running. I think you know where you can get such a thing.

Scratchin’ and Struttin’ Randy!
VERY COOL SHAWN!!

That’s what roosters are good at.
BTW, more nice pics from your Sunday run session with the boys Dave.

Thanks guys. Beleive it or not after I posted the shots I got called out to a fire up on the ridge in Stokes SF. I just got home after working it. Still going on but they didnt want us on the mountain at night. Probably will go out in the morning again.

Remember SMOKEY SAYS ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT FOREST FIRES ! Keep up the good work.

Great pictures and story Shawn. Your railroad looks really good.

Where is Smokey the Bear when ya need him?

…probably at some train show, playing with his trains…!!!

One spring afternoon, when Caleb was a baby, Susan decided to burn the brush out of the fence. She put Caleb in the magic baby swing on the porch and…

Well, a breeze blew up and she was on the east side of the fence and the fire got away from her into the field to the west. She called the fire brigade. “Like my fire?”

They went to drive their big tanker out into the field. “I wouldn’t do that, there’s a seep there and it’s pretty soft on that slope.” Sure enough, they got stuck. They didn’t get the truck burned, but it was pretty muddy and had some soot on it before they got it out. “Look what you did to my fire truck!”

Then, of course, she had to have the all in and fix them something.

Caleb much enjoyed the bright trucks and lights and all the people.

She was known as “Scorch” in the little town. Caleb was 2 when we bought the brick house in Eldorado township.
