Recent G Scale Models by New Old Man from NM

Many of you have responded to my earlier attempts to post a reply with photos in the proper Forum. I am a non contestant in the MIK Challenge of Dave Taylor’s as what he wanted was another structure for his G scale layout. I am building a "Lube and or oil shack for an Oil Company Dave has yet to name. I have already posted a sketch and a photo in the wrong place, but I am working on learning the circuitous proceedure. At the off set when Dave introduced me to LSC about a month ago I included a photo of the rear of the Farmington, NM DRG RR Depot. I shall attempt to post herein some photos of the Front of the Depot as built in 1905. [the photo with the old people] This and several other old photos were the basis for reconstructing the Model. Another photo shows the front of the stick built Model complete with “Order board.” Working in my spare time this took about about 7 months.l

Finally the third photo is of the Farmington DRG RR Water Tank which I finished recently. There are 88 ‘staves’ with 15 threaded rods, an authentic support structure, freeze box and shingle roof with about 780 tapered cedar shingles. I have other photos if anyone has further interest.

These photos look squashed but some how this Civil Engineer muddled through. Larry Brewer “TNOMFNM” [email protected]

Well dang, You can post this stuff where ever you want as far as I am concerned (yes this is the appropriate spot (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)). That is beautiful work. Are you sure you have the colors right? Just kidding, I had to pick on something and since everything seems perfect. . . Glad to have yet another great modeler on here from which I can draw inspiration from.

Very Nice!!!

Great looking models Larry. I am sure they will be an enhancement to wherever they are sited.

I like all those little details that bring that station to life. The train order signal, baggage cart and the bench. The chimney sets it off.

Did you make all those yourself or buy them?

I know Scale Art Parts makes chimney’s like that and benches. I’ve ordered a few from them.

Ozark makes train order signals, but not as elaborate as that one.

I found kits for the baggage carts but they’re made of wood so I’m a bit reluctant to place them outside.

Water Tanks? I wouldn’t even attempt to try and build one from scratch. The Durango tank from Piko works just fine for me. I just replace the metal bands that come with it with strips of styrene.

Wow!! That looks great. Set that model in the right scenery and do a little Photoshop magic and it would be hard to tell which one was the real thing. Thanks for posting more of your work.

You mentioned you are a civil engineer. I am also a CE. My concentration is in water resource management and water treatment. Which discipline of CE is your concentration in?

Wow, if my stuff turned out half as good as that I’d be happy. Great job.

I am speechless.

Awesome.

Very nice work. Really like the details on the station.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Holy carp! That is fantastic work! Could easily pass for the “real thing”.

That’s high praise right there considering the source. Ray is one of the benchmarks to which others strive so if he gives it a “holy carp” ya done good.

Nicely done!

Looks like the real things

I’d love to see details of the water tank band’s threaded rods and where they meet, including the hardware at the meeting points

Gives us all something to strive for.

That is craftsmanship at it’s best.

oh my!

that is museum quality.

i hope you plan an indoors empire. your models are far too beatyful for outdoors.
