For years, I have had 3 modules set up as a Rock Quarry for my club module layout… Next to this, was the lead to the inside storage yard… On the lead, I had build an engine house and a 2-track engine service area, with 3 sand towers, 2 diesel hose pump connections, and 2 wather hose houses… In the below picture, you can see the rock quarry on the left, then the engine house… The tops of the sanding towers can just be seen over the engine house, and thru the transmission tower on the control tower…
This picture shows the begining of the quarry on the corner module.
This Picture shows the rest of the quarry, and a different view of the engine house and diesel servicing area…
Lately, we (Club members) have been discussing working more towards operations on the layout, so I decided to take out the Quarry and add a little ““industrial”” park area… The industrial park are would have 3 industry tracks, and an Interchagne track… In this picture, the two tracks on the left are the clubs mainline tracks… the third track in is the interchage track… moving further from left to right are track 4) Team track, track 5) Factory siding & track 6) rail-truck transfer building…
Another view from the opposite end.
The team track was a simple biuld, as I created a Concrete loading dock with a ramp down the interchange side, and a truck loading dock on the other side… Will have a picture of that later… The 3 story factory is this:
Notice, in those pictures, the factory is sitting on it’s foundation and a forklif is sitting on the loading dock. Below is a shot of the factory, with floors-roof installed and having it’s first coat of paint…
The other building for this area is the Rail-Truck transfer building… I used a wood burning set to burn in the morter lines on the concrete block wall construction, then sprayed it white… currently, the sides have just been glued to the foundation, and it’s drying… roof still has to be installed, and it will be a flat roof…
I hope to have these buildings completed enough to get them on the layout modules by Wednesday, when the club has a ““work Session”” on the layout… More pictures and naration to follow…
