Large Scale Central

Really large scale trains

This subject is all hypothetical.
Even if you do use what sounds like a proper name to post here, that is no guarantee that the name is actually the real name of the person using it.

We all know of one individual here who uses a number of different aliases.
At least four and probably more.
Why he needs to do that is anybodys guess.

Tim, ya got me, I’m the evil and dreaded troll under the bridge my real name is Karen and i’m a pissed off mother of 6 who’s husband left me for a 18 yr old rich brat that had one of the new Big Boys, all he;s doing is using her for her trains!!!

No seriously lets all calm down and respect even those that is a handle, it’s about the railroad folks, keep thinking railroad, railroad, and no idon’t me "railroad guests and new users outta this otherwise helpful site.

Mark aka D&H Kirkville (MLS) aka SpookytownRR (GRmag) aka nothing else

ps Mik thanks for the link very informtive and train related!!

Mark

Mark,
we have been down the self edit/delete arena previously. The person involved has a problem dealing with criticism of his archaic beliefs. This forum is the only one that I am aware of that the moderator takes a back seat and allows the members to use peer pressure to moderate. Bob will generally only step in when the proverbial has hit the fan and peer moderation has collapsed. This is an extremely friendly site and it is only a sense of friendship that members like to address each other on a first name basis. Nothing sinister afoot.

PS. Sorry to hear of your personal problems. I think everyone on this site would feel similar to you, losing a loved one to an 18 y.o. with a big boy.

Mark, let me throw my 2 cents into the arena too. As others have said, we are friends here…and friends among friends know each other by their real names. Unlike many other boards, this one…and Shad’s place are boards where the people are not anonymous. We are friends and many of us have met face to face. I’ve probably met a dozen folks here…from all over the US and I’ve met around 50 from Shad’s place. I’m looking forward to meeting many more in the years to come. Some have been into my home…and I’ve been in others. We’ve run trains together and sat at the dinner table together. I could not see this happening if we were all anonymous behind a nic and never revealing our true names or selves.

well being new here and seeing what transpired I was like WTF??? These guys are nuts! granted we all are, here we are adults playing with big trains! For a new person to this site I don’t see the big deal with using nick handles. I believe that there is a security issue to posting real names, maybe not identity theft, but vandalism and theft of stock and such. I believe that’s a respectable reason to allow people to use nicks. There are thousands of dollars in reason why someone might not want their names to be used. So what, we can’t respect that fear and let them just use nickname??? kind of silly to me!

and I have no personal problems dude - that was a joke, i’m so not a woman and how many 18yr old chics do you know that have a big boy???

Mark, finally being honest  wrote:

I assure you, Mr Mark aka D&H Kirkville (MLS) aka SpookytownRR (GRmag) aka nothing else, that you're safe from vandalism and theft of stock from ME.

I live the width and thickness of the USA and the Atlantic Ocean, the bulk of the island of Ireland, and 90% of the width of the UK from wherever it is that YOU call home.

Anyhow, according to my wife, I have WAAAAAAAY too much stock, far too many locomotives, electric and steam [even counting the around twenty or so that have been ‘loaned’ to her brother], and enough 7.25" gauge stuff to sink a small boat.

If you think that I’m going to overcome the anger of mrs tac in order to vandalate or thieverise YOUR stuff, you’ll be in for a long wait.

And I have a confession to make, folks [tears streaming down face, Jimmy Swaggert [sp] style] - all this time you have seen my name as ‘Terry’, and now, I have to admit that it is not so. It is Thierry, but I can’t get my Japanese keyboard to do the little accent over the ‘e’.

I hope that I may be forgibbed.

tac [short for, well, you know…]

Wouldn;t think that someone would come back and say, “yeah i’m gonna rob you blind, when aren’t you home”?

Well, there's always the IRS or equivalent: 1. How much money did you make last year? 2. Send it to us.

Mark,
now how does this work? I somehow narrow down your location to a state or hopefully a large city. I then secure a phone listing of all the M.Dashnaws from the phone listing. First hiccup - many these days do not list in the phone book or will have a mobile phone with no directory. Second hiccup, I travel half way around the world (all up cost in excess of $8000 - $10,000, considering airfares, accomodation, etc). I then hire a car and tour the city that I have narrowed you down to, assuming you have a phone listing and you have not changed address without informing the phone company.

By some stroke of luck I track you down and then carry out surveilance on your property to determine best time to enter your premises to ascertain the value of stock available for collection. Having settled on an appropriate time I enter your premises and commence pilfering equipment (quite likely all that will be available will be track and buildings). If I am brazen enough, I will break and enter and carry out a search to discover location of locomotives and rolling stock. I am then left with multiple visits to my car parked inconspicuously outside the premises, carrying a horde of locomotives and rolling stock. In this scenario I am assuming that not one soul is taking any notice of my comings and goings.

I then, at considerable expense, freight all your equipment back to my country, paying exhorbitant freight fees and customs duty charges. I then list all the stolen property on eBay to recoup my expenses for the journey. With eBay and PayPal fees taken care of I now am able to sit back and enjoy my illgotten gains. Of course for this to be feasible. economically, you would need to have several hundred locomotives and many hundreds of pieces of rolling stock. I would then need a semi-trailer to carry the loot. I would then need a shipping container to transport the haul. I would then need an invoice for custom’s valuation purposes to verify purchase price. I would then need to spend the next few years gradually listing my haul as to not gain attention, as eBay is a worldwide market. Assuming I manage to sell off all my haul, exactly how much compensation would I receive considering all the trouble I have gone to? The end result would be me out of pocket.

Of course after all my surveilance work I could simply souvenier a single item, but truthfully, why would I bother going to all that work?

I have used the description for some people in the past as “Twits” on other chats and forums,…I think they may be moving in here now…egads…I thought I might be safely away from them here…guess not…I guess I should move on and find a life off the web…Not only Twits, but a bunch of paranoid Twits, with no respect for themselves or anyone else.

Why are they so ashamed of their own given names ?

Nick Names are earned. Given in humour and respect by your peers. Anyone that gives themselves a nickname must be operating under some mental stress or illness…look for help, or get a life.

I think John would prefer being known as TOG rather than the nic he earned…“Cheats”.

Squeeky…er…Warren

I’ve earned a few nicknames in my life, too. Some of them are even printable…

Tim, you way to lazy, you don’t need a phone book anymore, took me 30 seconds to locate somebody on this very page’s address on the INTERNET

took another 30 seconds to locate a second one, street adresses and phone numers, maybee technology over on that side of the pond isn’t quite as good as over here, all you need for pretty much anything about a person is their name, and state they live in, all the rest is public information, as for traveling across the damn world to go steal something, don;t be so stupid, of course you would’t do that, but how about 3 hour drive with a uhaul rental for 19.95 a day
