Really large scale trains

If it’s not, at least you are consistant in your lying. That’s the name you also sign with at Shad’s place. I’d have a better feeling though if either website you list as yours, here and at Shads, was a working site. Friends have nothing to hide. So, why hide behind a nic? As I said, I don’t mind nic’s/handles as long as somewhere I can figure out who you really are. If you want to be a friend, then there is no need to hide. Otherwise we have no use for ventilators, trolls and other assorted jackasses that come here just to disrupt our playground.

As Warren implied, there is a brotherhood here among friends with this common interest. I also was one of those that traveled to the “thingy” that Warren, Ric, Jerry Barnes, and Norm Anderson attended. Jerry has been a guest at my GRR on his travels to visit his family nearby. Dave [TOC], Tony and I have spoken over the phone several times. Dave supplied two of my sound systems. When I post, or chat with these and others it is special to have seen the face, heard the voice, aor shaken their hand.
There is a wealth of information and skills to be gained here. I greatly appreciate the sharing that takes place.

BTW, at some other sites, my nick is Pi man JC, the origins of which are from working in the mathematics field for 36 years. I always sign my real name at the end of the post as well.

JimC.

I missed your name on my list. I get confused as to who is here or Shad’s or both. I’ll use Jim as an example of how we build trust in each other through these forums. We were all running well after dark and Jim had a problem with one of his passenger car’s lighting. He cuts out the car from his Santa Fe Super Chief and hands me the remote and says “Go run it while I fix the car”. I considered that quite an honor that he would trust me with his train…especially at night when visibility is minimal. Think of the trust that Marty Cozad has in us to allow a hundred train nuts loose on his layout for 3 days. What an experience we all would have missed had Marty chosen to be an anonymous shadow behind an anonymous nic. What an experience I would have missed had I chosen to be an anonymous figure in these forums. I’m so glad there are people here that are willing to be who they are and not afraid or ashamed of who they are.

Then again…I’m ashamed of who some of the others are HEHEHEHEHHE!!!

I use my real name just because it helps people believe I am a real person (ha ha, fooled them!)

Seriously, if you are concerned about identity theft, you should research where and how it happens. Most identity theft involves paper and the us mail, not the internet.

I’ve used my real name ever since there was the internet (and before!), never had it stolen.

Regards, Greg

So then, it ok for some to use aliases but not others? right? Interesting responses,, Is this a good way to treat new comers or should I say new aliases? Just wondering.
Nice going Kenny,

If it isn’t one thing it better be another, right!?? You know I have always been of the opinion that some people could do with quite a bit of eXtra wondering. That’s the kind of exercise which may keep brains “lubricated”.

BTW if LSF wants to be a fanatic, why not? It’s just a small step from there to “Ventilator”.  Now what I find peculiar is that “Large Scale Fanatic” doesn’t show as the originator of the thread. What gives???

Don’t worry about it HJ.
Probably just Marvin the Magnificent trying to play silly buggers again.

Along with my identity comes the grief that goes with it. I generated, it’s all mine and I’m proud of it. Nick Jr

Geeeeze…
I’m sorry I brought the subject up.
I think it is childish and immature to hide behind an alias, that’s all.
We’re grown men here. (At least most of us…  )

I"m not a "grown man", I prefer the phrase "Eldery Child". I still play with trains! Grown men go to the club with Buffy and play tennis!

I resemble that remark…

I may get older…But I REFUSE to grow up!!!

Thanks for the post Warren, it helped me out quite a bit and I already found some track I might be interested in. Also why do I have to post my name, does it really matter. I am just trying to protect myself against Identity Theft.
Dear Mr Fanatic - I respectfully submit that if you believe that hackers cruise toy train sites like ours looking for identities to steal then you are in a minority of one here.

You may have noted by now that we all use OUR real names. You will make friends on THIS site by doing the same, and make none by remaining anonymous on this entirely-open forum.

I’ll go and play with Buffy anyday!

I think Terry has something there. Just give the silent treatment to those who prefer anonymous then they’ll just quietly go away.

Identity theft IS a problem on the internet, but using one’s real name is not the issue. The real problem is bogus websites that ask for passwords, credit card numbers, SS numbers etc. Probably 99.9% of this comes from “spoof” emails with links to bogus sites. Fortunately these are pretty easy to avoid as long as one is aware of the problem and a little common sense is employed. For example, ebay and Paypal will never send you an email asking for these things or requesting that you click on a link to “update” your info.

Using your real name on a forum is no different than using your real name in public, or in the phonebook. A name alone is worthless to identity thieves.

SO, now that this name game has started, How do I get rid of my alias and just use my real name and keep the respect I have lost?

John

John; you almost already have…just give some way that a person can contact you off line, and it would help…There is a way, that allows a fellow Lister to contact you without publishing your email addy if you are concerned with giving it out…just ask Bobby…

Welcome to LSC…

As far as email goes, I use a Yahoo addy for my hobby (forums and Yahoo groups) and things that I think might come back and bite me. I have another addy that I use for banking etc. There’s nothing on the Yahoo site to steal. I also do not use an email address book. That keeps a potential hacker from getting other people’s emails and it stops any worm dead cold in it’s tracks.

Oh, stay away from Outhouse Express…
