Didn’t want really bright passenger car lights and wanted to use batteries. While walking thru Hobby Lobby I came across these $1.99 LED HO scale street light. Too cheap not to try.
I rolled a knife along the pole to cut it off just below the light fixture, making sure not to cut thru the tiny wires:
On the second car I did, I decided to add some heat shrink just below the fixture and to put a curve in it before it cools. I think this looks more realistic for a gas lantern.
Then, just glue the tip on the TOP of the light fixture in the screw holes on my LGB passenger car roof, adding electrical tape to secure the really tiny wires. Two lights are still not too bright.
I used two Eneloop NiMH batteries to power. Switched battery holders for like $3 each are on order from Amazon. Overall, I really like the look and think the heat shrink tubing makes it look quite realistic:
This is the first car w/o the heat shrink tubing:
Measured the current on one LED at 0.01 amps with the two batteries. Should last quite a while, even with four lights.
