Reading CV's with JMRI in Large Scale

Please just double check and verify that the decoder does have 3 sets of green screw terminals, just double checking.

Try using your QSI programmer with JMRI and see if you get any differences… or were you using that all along and not telling me?

Greg

Sorry Greg, I meant to mention that yes it does have the three rows of screw terminals. I did not use the JMRI software with the QSI programmer. I used the QSI software with the QSI programmer to the decoder through the locomotive. JMRI with my NCE PH10-R programming track connected directly to the decoder.

Thanks Steve

try the same thing with JMRI using the QSI hardware, that should be interesting.

It really seems that you may have some weird issue, but I normally use the QSI programmer. The Titan does indeed draw more current, and I have a 15 volt, 1 amp supply for the QSI programmer. The QSI software is so well tailored to the decoder I have not relied on JMRI, and I always use the QSI programmer for the titan since I have a nice programming setup:

Here is an update. I read the Titan decoder outside of its locomotive with the Quantum Programmer and the QSI software, it read fine. In order to read the same decoder with JMRI and the Quantum Programmer I had to down load and install Si Labs VCP driver which worked fine for JMRI but would no longer work with the QSI software. I had to revert back to the Si Labs q_prog_USB driver which allowed the QSI software to work again, but like earlier would no longer work with JMRI. I recently purchased a SoundTraxx PTB-100 programming booster. So far it has allowed me to read my QSI Titan, older QSI Magnum, all while in there respective locomotives using JMRI. I will be trying the WOW 501 later this week.

Thanks

Steve

Interesting, I was able to use the same driver with the QSI dongle for either JMRI or QSI software.

Also, note that it worked better out of the loco, so you might check your track pickup wiring. Is there any possibility you still have something connected across the rails. Next time you remove the decoder, you might check the resistance across the rails with the loco on the rails…

I had a friend that went nuts using graphite for lubrication, and did not clean the journals on the wheels first… the old oil caked up the graphite and that caked graphite created a low level short between axle and wheel (across insulator)… so strange stuff can happen… happened to me on an Aristo E8 where there were little lights over the trucks connected to the track pickups in a place that was not obvious.

Anyway, the PTB-100 seems to help, but be aware you may be covering up some wiring issues. Mine is still in it’s bag for years and like I said, I have a LOT of QSI Titans.

Greg

Hi Greg. I confirmed there is no short across the locomotive. I also tried both Si-Labs drivers a couple of times and could never get both JMRI and QSI software to both work on the QSI Programmer using the same driver on my Windows 7 machine. Today I tried the PTB-100 on my WOW501 decoder with no luck. Still getting “no locomotive error 301”. I re-posted on the TCS groups.io site about this, we’ll see if I get any suggestions.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Dan, what would be the items (i.e. programmer, software, laptop capabilities etc.) I would need if I purchased the “MX696S is $160.00 at Trainli”? I would want to have it work with my NCE PH10-R, JMRI and have complete programming control. Where can I hear the different sounds included in the decoder on line?

Thanks

Steve

You can program all the CV’s from any quality DCC system.

But, if you want to load sound files or customize them, you need (as with other manufacturers) the Zimo programmer, MXULF and one of the free softwares, I think they only run on Windoze.

There is no good place online to hear the Zimo sounds specifically, go to Youtube and search Zimo.

Here’s the listing of available sounds: http://www.zimo.at/web2010/sound/tableindex_EN.htm

Greg

Thanks Greg, can the Zimo be programmed using JMRI through my PH10-R on the programming track?

Steve
