REA B&O Blue Caboose

Anyone have a Blue REA/Aristo B&O steel sided caboose that might be willing to sell. Does not have to be new or have the box.

Bought one off Evilbay and when it arrived it was totally destroyed, Trucks broken, coupler snapped off, one wheel set snapped in half, one side completely broken off, and the other side broken off one end and coming apart from the roof.

This was to be a birthday present for my Brother as he likes the B&O and needed and Blue caboose for his all blue train.

***Hi Dan-

Yes, I have one, errr, let me look down below, I did have one, in decent shape.

You can check me out on ebay = rr*bill

I excel at packing and shipping, lots of cushioning = my normal method.

My feedback glows, and is over 2000.

FOUND IT - early version, no box, not lighted, plastic wheels, but fully intact, all parts.

I probably have a lighted junker, if you wish to cobble them together ?

Thanks Bill for looking. I talked to my brother and he needs a Bobber style and this was a long version. I talked to the Dealer and he is going to give me a partical refund on the item. Since it is already disassembled in a way. I will cut it up and build a BObber out of it. That way I cut away the broken areas while I am shorting it. I will be able to do it and still keep the original paint and lettering. This one has a complete interior , Metal wheels, lighting and smoke, So when I am done it will be a top notch bobber for his yard layout. I will start cutting tonight as he needs it for his 4th of July train.

Thanks again for looking.

***Great Dan-

That will be one Super Bobber !

Nice of you to do that, Bill*-*

Remember:

This group likes pichers!

Lou: I will be sure to take some as I bash this into a super Bobber, then I will figure out how to post them here. From a curser look at the sides and where the damage it, an measuring the Bobber frame that my Brother gave me, it looks like where I will have to cut is perfectly aligned with the sides of some rivet plates next to the edge of windows. This is going to be easier than I thought it would be. The only thing that might be an issue is the bobber frame is 1/4" narrower than the steel caboose. Narrowing the ends will be a piece of cake, its the roof and coupla that might present a problem. I had thought about cutting it down the middle and hiding the seam under the roof walks, but that will weeken the roof. I think I might just trim 1/8" off each edge which is a rivet strip that runs the length. I can always make a new one out of styrene and emboss new rivet.

I will keep you posted in the Modeling forum.

Lou: here are the pic of the bash:

This is what it look liked when I got it in the mail

I cut the broken ends off the side just past the windows so I could keep the Lettering intact

My brother had a frame for a bobber caboose that he gave me so I used it for the base of the conversion.

Salvaging the ends, I painted them to match the sides. I took a piece of the broken side to Lowes and has the color match the paint in a gloss finish. They came pretty darn close.

I then cut the roof along on the the seam lines and then cut the roof walks to match, then drilled new holes for the to mount in and were no pins were available for holes I glued it down

This is what it looked like from the side when done I salvaged the marker lights from the origianl and mounted them on the Bobber

Here is the roof after modifications.

And the end of the caboose after completion which included replacing the railing with Home made brass ones.

It didn’t take all that long to do after I got cutting into it. Having it already painted helped out. My Brother now runs it in his front yard on 4th of July, Memorial day and Veterans Day. He has different trains for Christmas and Halloween.

Dan, a neat project… It looks good…

Well done. Especially how you saved the lettering.
