RC Trucks

Anybody else race the rc trucks , electric or gas ? This is the new Taxxas Slash , CORR race truck , in a video and a couple of pics from today

http://gs58.photobucket.com/groups/g279/6T01ZFBVFI/?action=view¤t=Slashdustdoughnuts.flv The younger people are faster , but I have just as much fun raceing them . Also from last year

That’s cool!!!

My son used to be very active with Traxxas RC. We even had a track in the back yard that was visible from Google Earth  Then he got his driver’s license and kind of forgot about RC Cars. He brought one on our camping trip a few weeks ago, but the motor has so much time on it it won’t stay in tune - the tuning changes as it warms or cools. After a couple of frustrating hours he put it away. He also has an gas RC race boat. Very cool.

I was into it some years ago when the Tamia BlackFoot was a hot truck. Matthew got started by getting my BlackFoot running again after being in storage for over 5 years. Once he saw nitro cars he never looked back at battery.

We used to race 1/8th scale gas race cars on pavement in Lincoln, NE. Had a blast, but it got to be too expensive with the cars getting more and more complex/expensive. FUN hobby though. Jerry

Yes Ric it is cool raceing with Sons , grandsons , and son-in-laws !

RC Trucks are something to be enjoyed with others, if all by yourself , not so hot .

Yeah, the pit stops, qualifying rounds/etc made it fun. Jerry

Raceing weekly at the Reo Raceway dirt track , finishing 4th usually out of 12 in the stock Slash class, and happy to be there . Birds eye view of this great track with drivers stand and everything .

There are several diferent clases and nitro burners as well …I am raceing electric battery powered . There is also an indoor dirt track for winter races , the fun continues .

I used to race both RC off-road trucks, and on-road cars, in the early-mid 90s. Lots of fun, but was definitely a ‘beat the guy that can outspend you’ kind of thing. Thats why I have a ton of batteries and RC gear!

Anyone want to buy a JR Propo R1 Racing Radio?

I am re-visiting the rc truck hobby since the first time in the 1980’s , now , because of 2 son-in-laws and grandchildren .

These things go way back for me. During the late 70s I owned Hobby Johns which was a mecca for electric RC cars. At the time I ran the race team for Roland Boucher (Leisure Electronics) and a kid I brought up, Mike Lavacot, was the #1 electric driver for Associated. Well Mike and I started making these off road things using a lot of old Jerobee parts and left overs of our serious race cars. We would take them to the races and run them before and after the races. Also took them to hobby shows where we did demos. People really went nuts over them and started building their own. Hobby City even started running races for them. Bob Rule (Bolink) then approached me that he wanted to manufacture them. At that time I wrote articles in the magazines for him and he was a good friend (we are still in touch) so I told him to have at it. Our stuff was so crude compared to the present state of the art, but was so much fun.

John

Wow John , you were into the ground breaking , really early electric rc trucks / cars , the hobby certainly has come quite a ways since then .

what a time to be in , now

I was into the electric stuff 20 plus years ago but it got old after a while. We still have some of it here and it never gets used.

Then last year my son wanted a nitro buggy so I took him to the hobby shop during a snow day. It turned out to be their grand opening celebration so the nitro buggies were about 60% off for that day only. As we were standing in line I thought, hell, I’m getting one too! So we both bought one. Plus all of the hardware and fuel to go with them.

It took us a week to break the damn engines in! But I must admit they are super cool to run. During the holiday shut downs at school we run them in the gym. Kind of fun but very loud! Sort of like running a chain saw inside the closet. And man do they go through a lot of tires.

Check out a video of one in action - http://home.comcast.net/~kookala/NitroBuggy.MOV

Edit: These things fly too. They are 4 wheel drive and even have a disc brake to stop them.

Jon.

Yep , your in ! I know what you mean .

Losi has produced a 1/10 electric Slider , and 1/18 Slider and late model , all of which have sales that have gone thru the roof . Local track even built a indoor dirt oval , and the raceing has been very well attended . Here is two views of my 1/10 Slider …so much fun

DAMN YOU GUYS!

i remember back in high school reading one of the R/C Aircraft mags and devouring the articles on the “new” R/C buggies. The stuff that john was talkign about (I remember your ad’s in the mags back then) nad the then new Tamiya cars. Cast chassis parts and a sealed “tub” for the electronics. Was a Ford Pick up and a VW bug as well as a Buggy style sand rail all on the same chassis. Not real fast but fun. Then came the Kyosho and more advanced Tamiya stuff. Associated and Bolink (I was a Bolink guy) then Team Losi. Anyone remember the “Rockbuster” knockoff? How about the Aristocraft cars and trucks? I raced indoors on flat tracks mostly. Carpet usually. I was NEVER an A-main racer but then as was said I was always on a limited budget. I was usually happy to finish the night with a running car! As the Gas power technology was getting simpler and better I was getting out of the hobby.

I’d jump back in now if I had a reason. there are No tracks remaining in my area within an hours drive now. Indoor or outdoors. Very little hobby shop support as well. Not like there used to be.

Ah nostalgia!
