Stumbled across a deal the other day that was too good to pass up. Bought an entire Aristo RC Cola set, for less than the cost of a slopeback tender. It arrived today. The RC Cola box a bit tattered. But everything inside…like new condition. So I now had an excuse to run a train. So I coupled a flat and a caboose and rode the rails. Ralph
Just need a load of Moon Pies… Good find!
That’s the caboose came with it?
I had a set, threw the stupid chome-drivered engine away.
The cabooses (I still have 2 in the dungeon) are old center-cabs style.
No Dave,
It came with a 2 axle center cab caboose and a Diet Rite box car.
They have plastic wheels, so I didn’t run them.
I won’t throw mine away. Happy to have it.
We can’t all drive Jaguars.
If we did, it would just be another Chevy, wouldn’t it
Ralph
This one was BAD.
For track power, you couldn’t keep the drivers clean enough.
Tried selling it, gone twice (for $5) and returned.
Got the BIG boxcar in a box, for repaint for someone to do.
Those things run just fine on battery power.

This engine ran fine, even though I hadn’t cleaned the aluminum track in over a month. Only ran it for an hour or so. I have another 0-4-0 from a Christmas set. Hasn’t given me any problems so far. Ralph

I have 2 0-4-0’s and like them both.
The RC Cola sets were among Aristos first, probably 20 years old now. For a set that was never distributed for retail sale, there are an awful lot of them still around. They were made as a special for RC Cola, Korean made and never known as strong runners.
George
IMO The Aristo 0-4-0’s are always a crapshoot. I’ve had around 10-12 of them over the years. (And still have 2.) Everybody who claims they have one that runs good are probably right, and those who claim theirs were turds probably are as well. I’ve had a few that ran perfectly, some that waddled, some that lurched, and some that were pretty much DOA. The quality of fit and finish was all over the board as well.
Best I can compare it to was '70’s and '80’s Fords and Chevys where if you managed to avoid one built early on a Monday, late on a Friday, or on a day either side of a holiday, then it was a pretty good car… if not, you better have liked the coffee in the service lounge.

This RC Cola set is made in China. Box touts the locomotive’s “articutraction” drive.
Maybe there was more than one production run.
Ralph
I think “articutraction” was Aristo’s name for the way the front axel is free to rock side to side with respect to the back.

I look at the locomotives that come with Bachmann’s Big Hauler’s sets the same way. I’ve thrown too many of them in the trash (after scavenging parts). I also have heartburn with the locomotives put out by Aristo that come with a caboose and slopeback tender with the crappy built in so called sound. My first one I had to replace the pilot wheels so that it would stay on track and the second one I threw against the fence
after replacing it’s pilot wheels to no avail.
The slope back tender does have some awful crappy sound. Even worse than the early Big Hauler.
I’ll probably take out the sound and run the power to the loco.
Ralph
Aristo will fix it up with the newest wheels, fresh gears and any missing details for something like $25.
Stick the Small Scale Railway sound board in the tender 'stead of that one;)
R/C cola is my favorite soda!
I love that stuff!!
The RC Cola 0-4-0 was out doing track cleaning duty today. Probably the last time before major surgery on the loco starts. I’m going to “up-size” as well as stretch it out. Wheel configuration will be either 2-4-0, 2-4-2, or 4-4-0. Final decision being based on what I can make work. Ralph The Buddy L 2-6-2 returned to service. Unfortunately power pick up is still bad. Junk wheels.
