Ramset

Ok, I’m sitting in my train room staring at my pile of boxed rolling stock. It’s in an unfinished basement.
So’s I think, I’m putting up some studs and pegboard to make some shelves.
My Nephew is a manager at the Home Depot near me and I go see him to buy a ramset.
He says, “Sorry, Uncle, but I can’t sell you one without your Ramset License.”
“How do I get that?” I ask.
He says to go to Ramset on line and take their course, then pass their exam.
So I took the course.
Then the exam. I didn’t miss a question on the exam, which surprised the heck out of me.
Ramset e-mailed me my certificate and license.
Back to Home Depot to pick it up with a few boxes of ammo.
Lock and load!

Cool tool. Bought one last fall.

Be sure to wear ear & eye protection. Be very cautious of ricochet if using outdoors in a rock and mortar wall. The nails will not penetrate rock.

I hate to ask, how do you know this? Sounds like Kevlar was needed.

Well, I confess. Needing some anchor points to attach a wire that crosses my stone walk at a stair, I used the Ramset to drive some nails into the mortar on the stair riser. First attempt was not too well aimed and missed the center of the mortar joint.

I never did find that nail. Sure am glad I didn’t didn’t it in my body.

Yes - Kevlar is recommended, Full body at that, if working with stone walls.

The course was basically safety and proper use of the gun. Also different colored ammo and what power they were and different types of studs for different thickness of material. That kind of thing.
Nothing about shooting someone.

Fire in the hole!!!

John,

You could have gone over the border into Idaho where the Nanny Gummint ain’t and got one without a Ramset License.

Sigh.

Still, I suppose the larnin was useful?

hehe I bet I don’t qualify for a ramset license
