Railroad 'stuff' auction

Some nifty items here

Gee thanks for posting that Bob. Like I need more temptation.

Love the carts, will have to follow and see what they go for. I’m assuming shipping to my house would make the cost absurd.

Heck I just need the NP locks to put on my fancy new switch stand but the only one unlocked and having a key is the generic Adlake.

Wow, that’s a lot of great stuff!

I’m surprised that they make no mention of hazmat requirements for shipping the box of flares and torpedoes.

I love seeing the “bugs,” which are what those side-action telegraph keys, which were made for speed, are called. Or were, when I was a kid hangin’ out on the NKP with an old telegrapher named Charlie Grubb. Chewed tobacco and could hit the spittoon from across the telegrapher’s shack in Silver Creek, N.Y. Tried to teach me Morse Code. He said to think sounds (“dah-dit,”) not symbols (dash-dot). A Pennsylvania Dutchman, he would share his lunch with me, and it would always be topped off with a slice of excellent, home-made apple pie courtesy of his wife. Charlie would let me operate the semaphores, set switches, hand up train orders and do other stuff OSHA or the railroads would never let a 13-year-old kid do today.

Ray, as for those torpedoes, I had one of those and once considered setting it off by hitting it with a hammer. Thank God I didn’t. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Nice stuff ! Wish I could have it ALL. But too much “stuff” already . . . and a home to get finished this fall… . . . . can’t be buying more “stuff” right now . . . . .

Thanks for posting anyhooooo . . . . . .

Greg,

I just purchased a 5-car gondola “kit” in 1-1/2 inch scale. Five gondolas with steel sides, bottoms and welded steel frames. Also 10 aluminum castings for the ends of the cars. Miscellaneous detail parts included. The crate weighed just a hair over 1000 pounds. Shipped to Burbank, in my driveway for $450. It’s not as bad as you might think. BTW, the ten trucks and 10 couplers were shipped separately. The total cost of the trucks/couplers was $2050 and they were shipped free! Total weight there was 270 pounds.

It’s “do-able”.
