Large Scale Central

Railroad Days Report

Fullerton’s Railraod Days was a hit.
Estimates of 35,000 attending was undisputed. A new BNSF 4500 HP road engine was on idle and set with staircases for the curious to walk through the cab. Three cabooses from 1980-1928 were waked through by over 8,000 visitors. At least ten various gauge modular railrioads were set up – including the huge Del Oro large scale layout. Various historical and interest groups brought their rail literature and membership pamphlets along with humerous culinary attractions for the hungry. Above all, to a man interviewed, the asigned Fullerton police agreed the crowd behaviour was exceptional for the number attending. As one officer stated: “These people appreciate what they are seeing and show it in their courtesy to one another.”

Well said.

Good question with a poor answer – I didn’t take any and wish I had! I did get to say “hello” to over 3,000 people who walked through the caboose display. There were three in line - a 1980, 1960, and a 1928 model. I was one of the “porters” helping kids and their parents off the caboose steps. To a person, the visitor friendliness and courtesy in moving through the displays was evident.
