Railfanning time

On the bus coming back from Vancouver I noticed that the Thompson and the Fraser are at very high levels. Time to get my butt in gear and out there rail fanning. Should be interesting in the Thompson and Fraser canyons. Even better with a few trains thrown in.

In another thread I mentioned all the people one meets. One memorable gentleman went into a spiel when I mentioned that a siding must be coming up - clearly indicated by the “Yard Limit” sign

The spiel: "Oh that’s the indication of how far the track gang has to maintain things, usually 6 miles either side of a designated point.
"
Since I was on vacation I wasn’t going to discuss the “finer detail” of the Yard Limits with the gent, even less since he was hogging the good photo position on the platform on a more or less permanent basis. That’s why I have a lot of mountain side video on the way up.
But since I hardly ever get mad, I got even on the way back.

As you’ll see on the video I got “creative”; the cam was on the monopod at full extension and for steadiness I set it on the platform step. Very handy those perforated platforms, a nice fix point to swivel around.

Summer has finally arrived, we spent the first few days on a mini vacation in the neighbourhood.

Lots of heavy duty water coming down the various falls in Wells Gray Park … oh the roar! That was Friday.

Saturday evening a free concert: Kevin Costner and Modern West at Sunpeaks Resort (which was our base). Great stuff … and … I got most of the concert on video.

Did we see bears? We sure did, five in all.

On the way back to the Okanagan the CP track gang was just coming back to the Kamloops yard, a regular parade. At least six westbound freights stacked east of Kamloops. No, the coach driver wouldn’t stop.

Severe T-storms in the forecast for today. I’ll be railfanning tomorrow! Do a bit of concert editing today.

Don’t believe a word you said without pictures. Where are the pictures or video’s?

Chuck,

I got sidetracked (pun intended) by the siren song of good weather and trains.

Five train video links from the Tuesday outing are over here. More of the same to come, just as soon as I get the editing done.

First segment from the mini-holiday - Wells Gray Park - is almost ready, too. Every once in a while the regularly scheduled program interfers.
