Rail Sweeper Bash

Saw one for sale - so I just made one myself. Still in work. http://www.flickr.com/photos/black_dog_skunk_works/6084155744/in/photostream

Way to go Mike!

Mike; It’s looking good. I made something a little more primitive many years ago. It uses a Brawa rail head cleaner centered under the 7 plank wagon to also polish the rails. I used a DPDT switch to cause the rail buffing wheels to rotate opposite the direction of travel. This car uses track power. If I were to do the project today, I might give an on-board battery a go.

Heck, I was thinking of doing something like the brushes the other day!

Got my “body” work done. Now getting the wiring cleaned up. Has Flashing red LED side markers and bright white LED headlights. Once I get it done I will post another video of FLICKR. Should be doing some night ops up at my brothers this weekend, plus an opportunity to make some speed runs with the Vadar Fan powered loco. I have to drag a flat car with that so I don’t create a sand storm in the wake…Video to follow!

Done! Now for field trial in Lake Arrowhead this weekend! http://www.flickr.com/photos/black_dog_skunk_works/6104131877/in/photostream

Mike, can you give a list of the components of the rail sweeper and who manufactures them?
Thanks,
Ron

Ron, it was bashed out of stuff I had in a junk box. Brush is cut down baby bottle brush, actual car is a $5 find from the local Train store, drive is out of a $12 r/c off road truck from Big Lots, LEDs = junk box, plastic parts made from strap, sprockets and belt from local r/c car hobby store in HB. I saw the $87 on on eBay and made my own. We tried it this weekend@ Arrowhead. Worked ok but needed some fine tuning. Got that done yesterday.

Looking good. Nice bash and should do the job once you get it fine tuned. Later RJD
