Rail Bender Box

Combined my love of trains with my attempts to make sawdust yesterday and today. Our club needed a new box to carry our Train-Li bender around, after one cardboard box fell apart and the second began showing signs it was nearly kaput!

I took some old redwood fence boards that had been milled down a bit to get rid of the worn wood look, recut them, added some 1/8 inch plywood for the lid and the box bottom. Then I took the blade off, and put the disc sander on, and smoothed the whole thing out.

Now all it needs are hinges, handles, and a clasp. Tomorrow is Easter, but maybe OSH will be open.

I suppose I’ll need to seal it before I assemble the hardware. We’ll see. I put three pictures up in the photo gallery. If you sort by newest first, (at least today) they’ll be the first you see.

Or you can search by my name: Dick Friedman.

Nice little box. I bought a small heavy duty tool box for mine so I can carry the bender, joiners, tools and anything else needed for track work.

Since this is the Club’s bender, there’s room for the instruction booklet, the wrench, and a little room left over, but the user supplies all the other materials. I went to OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware this afternoon for hinges and a clasp to finish the project. Then I’ve got to seal the outside and I’m done.
