Hit return then
Hit the Shaded quote thing which is on the same line as the Emoticons button (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Then type…the courser should be closer to the margin

Yes
I’m with ya, John. That quote function hasn’t worked right for me since I got here four years ago. I’ve never seen a basic function on a message board be so difficult to use. That and posting pictures, which requires some trial and error and some getting used to.

To me this is a glitch in the software. Sometimes it easy, sometimes you can’t separate it at all.
Two things that have worked for me.
-
Got to the very bottom line of the screen and try to type there. You’ll know you are going to be successful, if you cursor is farther to the left than the printed quote.
-
I cut and paste ,just taking the quote that I want to answer or reply about.
Ric,
yeah, I cut and paste sometimes too. (Sometimes, when I can remember to do that…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif))

Sean, I had a minor problem with your instructions. To make the ‘quoted’ text appear above your text, you need to hit return, then move the cursor back up to the first line and hit the double quote icon on the menu bar. The cursor will then move to the first indent and you can paste whatever you are quoting. Then move the cursor down to the normal position (where you hit ‘return’ first,) and type your reply.
Sean, I had a minor problem with your instructions.

Yeah, that’s what I figured - a glitch. Sometimes it can’t be separated.

This one ended up upside down.

I use the “Quote This” button in the top corner of the post and then just arrow down to get my cursor to the extreme left if it is not already there.
That’s how I do it to GAP. Note that occasionally I get a 404 Page Not Found with the quote button,. A second try usually works.
