They’re still phishing!
Why don’t they use a program that sorts out all the no-reply addresses. Then they could concentrate on those suckers who fall for their scheme.
BTW my “PayPal account” is sooooo limited that it is nonexistent.

HJ,
the one that I used to like was the email from “eBay” confirming your purchase of an $800.00 wrist watch. The email then provided a link which stated “if you did not buy this watch then click here.” How many suckers went down that road to reveal their personal data?
And then …
twiddly dee and twiddly dum showed up.

HJ,
it would seem to be the John Sauer principle or maybe the “rose coloured glasses” syndrone. When one’s pet cause no longer exists, then one seeks another avenue to support no matter how trivial. It would appear that you are ‘bashing’ the phishers, so the trolls need to show their support for the the phishers and derail any thread that relates to them.
One cannot post any thread without the trolls showing their anti-sentiment feelings to derail the thread. I remember when one of the trolls was full time modelmaking then resorted to Twitter type postings and now even a full stop “.” is almost too much for him.
Rooster, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
Okay Steve, I got that! I still remember the phonetic alphabet from my army days.
On the Paypal, look at the return address it is always ePaypal or something like that, has that ‘e’ stuck in there someplace. If in doubt, go to the web site you usually go to(don’t click on their’s!) and look it over there.
jerry
My paypal was limited and it was lousy. It is really difficult to do anything on ebay without paypal. It seemed that someone at my address did something that violated policy and the whole house was shut down. On the phone with paypal I couldn’t get anywhere and they wouldn’t tell me why either. I remember saying “so if I rented out a room and the renter did something wrong the whole house would be banned from paypal for life” “yeah pretty much” they said. What can you do? it is their system like it or lump it.
After a few months I reapplied and luckily I was OK.
Whenever I get a message like that I go right to the real website. Never click on a link that is in the email. Who knows where you will end up.
Jerry and Todd,
I used to have two PayPal accounts, one for the business and a personal one. Til the day when good old PayPal couldn’t/wouldn’t process international transfers.
Oh boy, maxed out my one credit card - “there has been an error, please try again in a little while”.
It took the better part of three days talking to everyone, his brother, his supervisor and that guy’s manager to get it straightened out. Talking to the issuing back for two days, doing the hoop dance.
The corker? Talking to one of the German techies who finally admitted that they have various glitches - the one I experienced was just one of them.
Great!
Anyway I withdrew my money from my commercial account and cancelled both acconts right after.
Never again.
I gave up my PayPal account over 10-years ago when my credit card started getting billed for telephone calling cards that were charged to my account in Europe…
What a mess it was then dealing with Ebay & Paypal trying to get it straightened out, don’t know if they have gotten any better (either one) as I stopped using both when this happened.
Good thing my credit card company took care of it on there end because I don’t think PayPal ever would have done anything to fix the fraudulent charges.
The more I learn about PayPal from you guys, The more I like Cash!
Cash is KING but try buying something on Ebay and try telling the seller that you don’t have paypal. Some sellers will only use paypal. I was told by paypal that there are other ways to pay for and accept payments from buyers on Ebay which there is BUT no one actually uses them.
I have been lucky so far since I haven’t had anyone hijack my account yet…
What I dislike about paypal the most are the FEES.
Having looked at Ebay UK, from time to time, it seems a few sellers will take a personal cheque or happily for them, cash if you call at their address. Remember the UK distances, from one place to another, are not as great as those in North America.
However, having managed to live for three quarters of a century without either Paypal or Ebay I will continue whatever time is left for me in the same blissful state.
If the seller won’t take my personal check or money order, then he looses the sale. Simple. I, too, have had bad experiences with PayPal.
Wow. I’ve never had trouble with paypal. With just about everything else. And yes, I have received phishing messages.
I too have never had a PayPal problem, like Tom I have received the attempts to get my info as well.
Having said that I could see some person on a tight budget “'panic”, or go into shock and in such a state make the mistake of responding being worried that an $800 charge might break the bank or result in a refused payment by their bank causing all kinds of trouble.
It will never stop as long as it is successful even 1/4 percent of the time. I have also had many telephone attempts to get my personal info, but I won’t give up my phone over it.
William,
It was the response I got from PayPal that made me decide. Incompetence together with denial is a combo I don’t accept.
HJ,
when the phishing emails ‘started’ I would onsend the suspicious email to either PayPal or eBay as was relevant depending on if it was either a PayPal phishing expedition or eBay related. Funny how a purchase on eBay would see a PayPal phishing email coincidentally appear.
PayPal or eBay as applicable would send me an automated email thanking me for bringing the situation to their notice followed by a further ‘personal’ email several days later advising the email was supect and that they would investigate the matter.
After a while they simply stopped acknowledging receipt of my emails making me think that the investigations were too extensive for them to handle and perhaps they were accepting phishing as part of life.
