Ahhhh, David…the great things of the past…
I have samples of the old Hornby/Mechano loop hooks too…in fact I have about 5 cars and a loco in 0 gauge, all with them…

Today, and the future, not just the past…
Another B’mann box car kit is on my work table…another car to feature Loops & Hooks/Hooks & Loops…
Care and preservation, means using more of them, and installing them on new equipment…
I’m trying to set a leisure but merry pace, for all you dedicated people to follow…
Ahhh…Young Dave Goodson is sure deep into preserving Hook & Loop/Loop & Hook couplers…we should all appreciate the efforts he puts into this worthy cause…
Thanks, Dave…
Hey, let’s not forget the ol’ Look & Hoop stuff…
This topic seems to be close to many folks hearts seeing that it is on page 4 and has over 1600 looks. I love the little reliable H+L be they LGB, Aristo, Bachmann and USAT. They are all terrific and play so nicely together. On a more serious note as a card carrying member of the H+L Preservation Society I don’t want to violate any rules but I have reduced my yard switchers to only use Loops since it is easier to uncouple when shunting around. Is this OK??
For open houses and shows, the dual hook and loops never uncouple on us, they are very reliable.
Single hooks can uncouple and they always do this when you are not watching!!
Tyco and Mantua where the same company I had both and both came with the hook and loop. I still have my original sets. !955 era. Later RJD
I mentioned in an earlier post ( I think) that I had sold most of the H+L/L+H bottle openers some years ago: every new box I bought had them in there as spares. I still have a few. which I did not sell. and am looking to paint and convert them into yard junk. The springs, when removed, will be of use I guess.
…one note to me, suggests that the loops can be joined with various kinds of metal loops; the kind used for key rings, and made into necklaces for your favorite lady friend…you can spray paint the loops, before joining them in various colours…one was suggested…white for Christmas…
…grinning…

When the “Tyco” name came along, it was the cheaper stuff, and every single piece of Tyco I have ever seen has had the horn-hook, X2F, quasi-nmra couplers.
Mantua was the higher line, early ones came with…Mantua couplers.
So, big difference between Mantua and Tyco…as far as collectibility goes.
You ought to see the OLD Mantua cars…brass and sheet, screw together, glue on carstock lithographed sides. I have…enough.
OK, Terry Burr’s humor transcends the serious of this topic – imagine the heresy of voiding Kadee’s to fold our hobby into the commercialization of both Halloween and Christmas.
That’s Terry wearing Hook 'n Loops for Halloween…and to decorate a Christmas Tree.

We should all promote the preservation and use of L&H/H&L couplers, in any way, that can be enjoyable for the individual person…
For me, just using them as model railroad couplers is enjoyable.
Not to start a war, or anything; but it would be interesting to hear why some people seem to dislike, verging on hate, Kadee couplers. This dislike is often shown, but has never actually been explained.
If anyone cares to commit to an explanation, it would be appreciated.
This of course should NOT detract from the true reason for this forum…the Care and PRESERVATION, of the L&H/H&L coupler.
Well, Fred, I have the notion that you are tempting providence here, especially when you hope no war will break out regarding comments concerning the newer (birth date mid 1950’s I think) coupler. There are a couple of issues I could mention but I think you need to start a new thread in order not to obfuscate the H+L/L+H saga.
In anticipation,
Good idea, Alan…
Dear BSNF Management,
On behalf of a model railroad interest group LSC, I, among others, including a retired padre, encourage your railroad to implement what we in the model railroad hobby have used for years: Hook 'n Loop couplers. They would benefit your 1:1 scale operations. Imagine no more need for 4-mile radius curves, and no more problems ramming cars into those closed nasty rusted knuckle couplers.
Please respond on our Large Scale Central website.

Question…
Does anyone body mount their H&L/L&H couplers ?
I do body mount the Loop on the front of the tender on the B’mann 10 wheelers, and on the LGB Mogul…while doing so, I move it by about a quarter of an inch, allowing closer coupling, and a better appearance. This also allows better operation when the loco is pushing hard in reverse.
One great thing about L&H/H&L couplers is that one size fits all…scales…!!..and all makes seem to join in harmony …nice isn’t it…
Hartland short cars have body mounted H+L’s .
My yard switchers have body mounted loops and the fronts of some of my locos have body mounted loops.
The majority of my rolling stock has stock truck mounted H+L couplers.
One size does fit all very well.
