Hello Railfans.
After reworking a industry area and installing another LGB switch for the second siding I backed the first train over it and DERAIL. I slowly ran back and forth over the switch and sure enough the point on the frog is worn. Short of changing the frog out for a new one if possible. A friend suggested contacting TrailLi. I thought what if I was to cut and attach a tiny piece of styrene to make a new point on the frog?
Will it work? The switch is a basic LGB that runs off a runaround track to a seldom used siding so it won’t see alot of use.
What do you think?
Todd
Change the frog. Anything less will, at best, be temporary.

Wow That was a quick response…
just where does one find a new frog for a LGB basic 4’ turnout? I haven’t checked with TrainLi yet.
Todd
Ralph may be right, but if I couldn’t find the part I might try to rebuild that frog’s point with some JB weld, and then after it’s set shape it up with a hacksaw blade. I’m no fan of insulated frogs anyway, so my first impulse would be to try to replace it with a live, brass frog, if that’s possible on those plastic ties. I think someone actually sells cast metal replacement frogs for these switches, not certain, tho’.
Good Morning Todd,
Sounds like you are trying to Beat a DEAD HORSE to DEATH and still are not getting the answer you want to hear.
Without disassembling and replacing the frog, yea, I’d go the JB Weld route.
Also Check the guard rail for any rough spots. If the flange finds traction it could drive itself up, causing the opposite wheel to pick the frog.
Be sure to check your rolling stock also. LGB is very sturdy, you may have poorly gauged rolling stock that is beating the hell out of your switches.
The $10 gauge from Aristo checks a lot of different things besides wheels.
