Question re: Accucraft locomotive

I have a guy who wants me to take the LGB
55021 decoder (1.9 amp) out of a LGB D+RGW
Davenport Loco and put it into the accucraft version.
I have not seen an accucraft loco before.
Does anyone know how an accucraft motor stacks up against an LGB motor? Should I put in a
Higher capacity decoder?

Put the loco on the track under regular track power (before you convert it) and check its current draw with an ammeter at the voltage it will be running on your customer’s railroad. If under normal loads it’s running at around 1 - 1.5 amps, then I think you’re in good shape. If it draws closer to the 1.9 end of things, I’d suggest using a larger decoder if your customer is willing to spring for it.

My gut tells me you’ll be fine. I’ve not played with the Accucraft #50, but other Accucraft locos I’ve had cross my workbench for product reviews generally draw more-or-less the same current as similar locos from other manufacturers; perhaps a whisker more because it’s a higher-quality motor than say Bachmann or Aristo uses. But LGB uses higher-end motors. If that’s the “stock” decoder for the LGB #50, so long as your customer is not going to be pulling unusually long trains with it, or running it in high-stress environments such as steep grades or tight curves, I can’t see the current draw being significantly more than the LGB unit in the same environment.

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have instructions on how to wire the Aristocraft Forward & Reverse Unit. Ours came without directions…
Thanks for any help… Elaine

Thanks Kevin,
I will contact Murray and see what his conditions are.
He has been running the lgb loco for two years and has now decided
He wants to try the accucraft version.

Much of the answer to this question depends on if this is first production number 50 or the more recent batch from 1-2 years ago. They have different motors, and different drive train designs.

If you can look at it contact me off list and I will tell you what to look for.

Seems it will run on an indoor, flat layout pulling 1-2 flat or tank cars.
I am guessing it will be a never version as he has it on order and has
not received it yet.
