Question about Going back to previous page

When I open a thread to read it, I hit my back arrow to go back to the main page. It doesn’t do that. It leaves the sire entirely and goes back to the previous web site I was on.
I have to scroll clear to the top and click on Large Scale Central to go back to the main page.
Any other site, the back arrow takes me back to the previous page on the same website.
What am I doing wrong?

Using a Mac. Works fine on Firefox.

Works fine with Chrome.
It is Safari, I guess.

iPad safari correctly working here. Maybe a re-boot might work?

I never use the Back button. I click on the house at the top of the page when in a thread. Sometimes it’s just labeled Large Scale Central.
