Query on CRs CR1 Charger

Finally got around to installing the new BELTROL in the intended victim, started to charge the large 18v 4200mah NIMH I got at the ECLSTS. I made sure that the DIP was set correctly (no9) . When charging a 14.4 2600 mah Li ion it stays a solid color and the gas gauge flickers like it says in the instructions When trying to charge the brick when I switch it to CHARGE from OFF the LED to the right of the switch keeps flickering and blinking from red to green. nothing mentioned about THAT in the instructions, what am I doing wrong?

Well, the best place for product information is from the guy that sold it to you … You should contact Rick.

I took a peek at the manual. Did you change the DIP switch to no. 2 for the 14.8V Li-Ion? Also noticed that it says if you accidentally select more than one switch position at the same time it will apparently damage the charger. :frowning:

Edit: I just read some more … page 4 “Note: If your battery is below nominal voltage the gas gauge & charge LED indicator will flash Red/Green until the voltage rises above nominal voltage.”

Is the manual a pop up book?

Maybe it doesn't have pictures. That would stop Bart in his tracks.

AH HA! Interestingly Page 3 online has more information than the hard copy I got with it . In the hard copy it just says the gas gauge will flicker, and doesn’t mention the little bit about taking several cycles initially to reach full capacity, ( which I’m assuming means the charger will go through several cycles) which probably explains why its taking more than 2.5 hours to charge the 14V battery fer the first shot. And yeah I thought about calling him…but ya know Sunday afternoon on Labor Day Weekend…besides I got the slap on the back of the head I needed, just gotta be patient!

Taking a number of cycles to reach full capabilities means charge it, use it to discharge it, charge it, use it to discharge it, a number of times.
I doubt the charger is cycling charge - discharge - charge on its own.

Hmmmmmmm…then there might be a problem…

Hello Bart,

The Red/Green flicker from the charge indicator LED means that there’s something wrong with the PCB board on the 14.8V 2600mah lithium-ion battery-pack. Maybe, or somehow you short circuited the wires coming out of the battery-pack and arc a spark between the positive & negative wires when installing it into the battery inputs on the CR-1. What ever the case, send it back and we will replace and PCB board at no cost to you. Go to our website and click on Shipping/Returns in the bottom left-hand corner of the page. Fill out the RMA form, then place it in the box with you battery and ship it to the address on the bottom of the form.

FYI, if you have selected the wrong dip-switch to charge your battery-pack (wrong voltage and or chemistry) the CR-1 will not charge your battery.

Hi Rick! Nice of ya to take part of yer holiday to check up on us! So just to confirm, a 14.8 v 2600mah LI pack should be charged on DIP 2 correct? It shows a green light and flickering gas gauge just after about 6 hours showed no progress…the pack that is having the blinking led problem is a 18v 4200 mah NIMH …

Hi Bart,

Yes, the 14.8V lithium setting is #2 correct, but if the CR-1 Charge Indicator LED is blinking Red/Green at anytime or the Gas Gauge LED’s are flicker then somehow you may have shorted out a contact or the fuse and I would like you to send the CR-1 back to us as discribed in my earlier response. I’ll just send you out a new CR-1.

So the guy in the brown truck finally let me in on the secret of where he hid my charger! Got the small pack hooked into it currently and looks like everything is operating as advertised! YA!
