QSI delays

I placed an order for six QSI Solutions decoders a year ago (Nov 2010 in fact) but before they shipped the Titan range was announced and I made the mistake of deciding to rather wait for the new decoders; I liked the prospect of having the better lighting and ancillary controls they tout. I have loco’s I wish I could run but alas, the promised delivery dates keep rolling and my poor engines are sitting brainless!!.

How on earth does a company manage to survive without having product for so long? This company must be some sideline used as a tax vehicle? I suppose I could go for Airwire decoders with other sound cards which are compatible with my NCE controller but I was hoping to keep things simple with a one-card-does-it-all solution.

I am wondering if I am wasting my time waiting as they may never ship their new large scale stuff.

Murray,
there are many awaiting anxiously the arrival of the Titan. Soundtrax also made a big mistake several years ago when they dropped the excellent Sierra analogue sound board to devote their energies into the Tsunami. Similarly, QSI seemed to be making the same mistake. Why a company would withdraw one product to develop another is simply poor business practice? QSI had a decent sound board, but removed it from the marketplace to bring out the updated board and as yet, nothing but promises and delivery dates that keep falling behind.

Look to Phoenix. By the time they developed the PB9 digital board, the components used on the board had become obsolete and so the replacement PB11 had to be developed.

The largescale world is largely one of unfullfilled promises. Unlike the smaller, better supported scales, we are promised cordon bleu and yet receive take away.

Well we’ve waited this long, might as well waited a little longer. Seems to be closer now with the HO version on the market.

Im so glad I dont run any sound or any of the other high tec stuff LOL. I have no patience. I could never let an engine sit while waiting for a part. Im old school.

There was a rather long discussion on this subject on another website. It is poor business that QSI would abandon their Magnum line before the Titan line was even produced. It was said that the delays were unexpected by QSI as they thought they had everything ready to go when they stopped making the Magnum around Fall 2010. Who’s to say that story was just a CYA.

I have no way of knowing. I am in the same boat as you Murray. I got into Large scale in the Fall of 2010. I chose at that time to make it simple (KISS). I bought an NCE G-wire controller and was going to run QSI in all my locos with battery power. I chose QSI at the time, because I was familiar with it, plus I already had the software because I worked with it on my HO locomotives.

Well, its been over a year since I ordered it. I finally couldnt wait anymore and I bought a Phoenix Sound card with an Airwire receiver. The NCE G-wire controller will work with the Airwire, although you wont be able to get all the features. But I can control speed, direction, bell and whistle. I just recently bought a T5000 airwire controller and I really like it.

I like the sound on the Phoenix system. I know some say X is better then Y. But lets be honest, you are putting sound out in a small 3" speaker. The sound detail is going to get distorted and on top of that, you are outside where the environment isnt always ideal for the best sound.

I would say that you can still keep it simple and buy 1 or 2 phoenix sound cards. However, keep your fingers crossed. I have been told Feb/Mar on the Titan. (I just wonder what year are they talking!!!)
