Here’s one earning its keep way back in 1935:
That’s neat Ray. Thanks!
I want one .
Battery powered too.

Would be just a little tough, building a bridge across Illinois State Route 127 to the mailbox…
You just need to make a tunnel, Andy.
Andy, maybe you could use some deseasal oil. :).
Hmmmm, 2 helix’s and a long bridge… Would have to be at 15 feet in the air… Makes one wonder how the state highway department would answer that proposal…
A tunnel would work, providing it had the strength to not collapse when over weight vehicles pass over it… Still would require a helix on the mailbox side…
1500 hundred feet of straight track, enough 10 foot diamter curves to raise the track up about 50 inches, 60 feet of pipe for a tunnel under the highway…
Would be well worth the time and money…
Yeah, and you’d be able to get the mail a LOT easier!!!
DErail about halfway through the tunnel.
That is really neat. and to think in 1935 no one stole it for scrap considering many were coming off the desperate times of the great depression.
I wonder how long a setup like that would last today in some of our neighborhoods.
I would build an Acela and have the mail quicker then smack!!!
LOL
Incredible story and just goes to show how inventive Ranchers are.

Brings to mind a camera system and electrified bodies as well as armored cars.
After all, fooling with the mail is a federal offense…LOL
What a hoot!
Thanks for posting!
