I guess this will prove I’ve lost my marbles entirely, but since it’s crazy + railroady, I figure this is the place to gush about my latest “project.”
I have a basement bathroom next to my office, which I use a lot. Probably TMI, but the older I get, the more I use it, and therefore the more important the decor becomes. About a year ago I got a repro railroad brass shelf and a couple Pullman towels. Then a Pullman deodorizer jug. This last Sunday I bought a genuine PM brass cuspidor at the railroadania show in Gaithersburg MD (with our friend here, Jerry B). Also bought a few documents, small posters, and a money bag, for cheap bucks. Haven’t placed those yet, but here’s the early items.
So… the longer I have opportunity to stare at the shower curtain, the more it’s occurred to me, why not make it look sort of like a berth curtain? Long and short of it, I couldn’t see any proto Pullman items (repro or used), or even photos of such a thing. The current curtain needs replacing, and I was thinking of… stencil-spraying a Pullman logo on a blank white curtain? Naah… But then I saw that you can get custom-printed (like everything else) shower curtains, so haaahdayem.
I hung up and photographed my PM blanket…
… adjusted it in Photoshop, and ordered the thing. Here’s a couple shots from the printer places.
Pretty cool, I thought. I decided to go with Zazzle because they have a 15% off deal now. Curtain cost $50, plus shipping and tax. I know, an obsessive waste of moolah, but fun.
Now, some of you who know me might wonder how I’d ever veer away from anything Virginia & Truckee related. The simple answer is that I needed a breather from the V&T, and I figger the bathroom is a good place to get it.
