Prototype Resource Photos From My Trip to Houston NNGC

This past July I attended the National Narrow Gauge Convention in Houston. I hit as many railroad museums on the drive there and back as well as in the area as possible. Also caught a few rail-fan opportunities along the way. I took pictures of things that I thought would be useful to my projects as well as those that might have a broader appeal. I did not have time to take measurements or a lot of notes but I hope the pics will be of use to someone. Be patient as this may take a couple of evenings to get everything posted.

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Boomer. The Caboose must not be real, All the cabeese that I have been in all are rather beat up after only a couple of years. Most had graffiti carved around, and nicks and dings everywhere. Cabeese were kept around for many many years, and were basically work cars and the crews treated them as such, and when they were retired they were in bad shape.

NOT A REAL CABOOSE DAVE!!! YOU SEE IT WITH YOUR OWN EYES DON’T YOU!!!

Or maybe it is a display inside the Temple Texas Railroad museum and I carefully cropped the picture to hide that fact… Only the Boomer Knows mwhahahahhaha!

Oil tank on tender. This is not from the previous engine but is at the same museum, The Galveston Railroad Museum. It was by far the best collection of rolling stock and motive power. Sorry the pics are so wonky. There was no viewing platform so I had to climb up on the tender while my buddy watched for the curator. I held the camera as high as possible and snapped away without being able to see how the picture was framed. I took as many pictures of the top of the oil tank details as I could before they caught me and ask us to leave.

Yes and no Sean.

Boomer …not sure who changed your diaper but I’m sure as hell thankful they did cause I was “Joan Sin” (wait she’s dead)

Love the pics !

Boomer

So if I put up 2 electrical outlets like that in the kitchen with the sign in between do you think my son would obey the sign? Or would he just be upset because there isn’t enough outlets to plug in his devices?

Nice pictures

Great pics, thanks!

I like that 2-6-2 “Prairie” loco. You don’t see too many of those.

Mik would have loved this one.

Steve, I like them too. and incidentally, one of the is on my “Someday” build list too.

Great photos Boomer of details we often pass by.

All that equipment looks so clean like it is right off the shelf or out of the box in our case.

Awesome pics, Boomer. Thanks for posting them.
