Progress on the railroad

Ok between the weeks of rain and then two weeks of heat progress has been slow but there has been some. Here are a few pictures of what I have gotten done so far. These first four are of the tunnel covers.

here you can see that I have henged the lids so Ican get to the track and trains if need be.

The next two are of some rock I got down to help dress the line up and hold the ballest in place maybe.

This last picture is of what will be a mine in the mountain side. Still have lots of work to do on it. the track to the right on top of the foam is part of what will be a logging line.

I tild Ric I would get pictures up so here they are. Now if the weather, time and money all hold sout I can get some more work done.

Geoff,
Nice looking pictures, I think you’ll appreciate having easier access to the track. I’m also seeing those sidings and is that a switch back? Christmas may take on a whole new theme.

Geoff… man, nice work… tis lookin gooooooooood… Mines and switchbacks??? Operationsssssssssssssssssssss… hehehe

All I have to do now is find a place for a yard so you can run it for me. Can't have a Ops session with out Andy in the yard. :)

Geoff,
Really looking good. Are you leaving any room for your christmas display
Good to see it’s coming along so well and should definately get them out of the car.

I would have loved to be one of your neighbors to be able to watch this railroad in action from my front porch in your front yard. I was never that fortunate to live by someone with a front yard railroad so I had to build my backyard and sideyard lines  Looks Good! I watched the videos too.

One question: I see that you have an LGB sound car there or at least it looks like one. How do you rate the sound? I took mine out of service and switched to Charles Ro sound cars to run with my equipment that has no sound. I just couldn’t relate to that german imitation of US sound.

One comment: I see that you are using some grass carpet type matting or at least it looks like it. I had nothing but bad luck with ourdoor matting from OSH. The first little railroad I build I used that stuff on twice and it lasted about a year each time before it started to rot away.

Rudolf thanks. When I first started I did not tell my neighbors what I was doing. I wonted to see how long it would be untill one asked. It was about a hour.

there are pictures on my website of it from the strat. I need to get ones from this year up pn there still.

Now the LGB sound car I like. I think the sound is ok. Its not a high dollar sound but I am not realy one for sound so the LGB one works fine for me. I do find it to be tons better then the Bmann sound and the sound car is better thenthe sound from my LGB 2-4-0 loco that came with sound.

The grass is fake truf. I have a friend that puts in putting greens and he got it for me. So far it has held up good. This is its second year down and so far no sign of it falling apart. I do need to find a good way of tacking it down. The wind has picked it up and moved it around a few times on me.

If you would like to get rid of your LGB sound car let me know. I could use a second one.

Take care
Geoff

I’m of the same school on running with sound. When operating alone which is most of the time I use sound and smoke about 3 percent of the time. It gets annoying to me after a while and eventhough I can adjust the volume on some of my stuff the volume on the Charles Ro cars can’t be adjusted. I figured I’d be slick and install a volume control on them and really screwed up the one I tried it on. I think I might have a new LGB sound car in my stash and I’ll get back to you via email if it’s steam and not diesel. I’ll have to look at the one I was talking about because I might have taken out the sound on it and use it as a normal car. I’ll also let you know what I find there.

Rudolf
I have sent you three e-mails about the car. guess your not getting them. I got your e-mails so send me your phone number and I will call you. I would like the car.

Geoff

What is funny is that when this all started I did have a mole hill in my yard and now I am going to have a mountain. So I guess I did make a mountain out of a mole hill. I also have a name for my rock quary. A & J Clarke Quary. After Andy and his Wife. I will be working on that this weekend as well if it don’t rain.

Great work, Geoff… Yanno, that Quarry name kinda ““SINGS””…

Geoff:

Man I tell you. You have a lot of work ahead of you and it’s all good  What I’ve seen here and on your web site I’m impressed by not only your railroading talent but by the other thing you do for Christmas to help people. You must have a big heart.

BTW–your package should go out via UPS today. I packed it, weighed and measured it and cut the label online yesterday. I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay UPS four bucks to pick it up though. They used to charge two bucks for a house pickup and now it’s up to four. I’ll just drop it off at the UPS Store arund the street. Seems like UPS is slick anyway. They charge more for a home delivery than they do for a commercial business delivery. When I was running the NPS Warehouses in Monterey up to my recent retirement I had all my purchases delivered there to save on shipping costs. Trying to sneak my train buys past my wife might have had something to do with it too

Geoff, it looks great. It will look even better when the ground cover starts to “soften” those rocks. BZ.

no pictures tonight but i did get two of the what looks like it will be 8 or 9 yards of dirt in and a few trees in as well. will get pictures in the morning if it is not raining.

Ok. Got the pictures of the mountain work I have doen this weekend. the good news is. Its done for the most part. Just have to do some small detail work but the big stuff is done. Starting to fill the mountain in here.

The back of my truck has yards number 3 and 4 for dirt in it in this picture. It took only 6 yards total. I had thought at first it would take about 8 so I am glade I was wrong. All the dirt was moved fromthe truck in 5 gal buckets and dumped. No way over the tracks. Poor planing on my part.
