Programing Airwire G2 with T5000 questions

I am converting my Bachmann Indy Mogul to battery power using a 14.4 LiPo battery, Airwire G2 and a Phoenix Model 97 sound card. I have this all setup on my bench and it works great except for the Bell and Whistle.

According to the diagram I got from Phoenix (which was for the G3 which was what I was originally going to use) they tell me to change Function1 with CV 35 = 4 and Function 4 with CV 38 = 3. So I did this and when I press on the function keys nothing happens, I was messing around with all kinds of key combinations and discovered if I hit the Function 1 Key and the pressed down on throttle knob the horn would work, same with Function 4, if I pressed the Function 4 key and then pressed down on the throttle knob the bell would ring, The problem with this is when you press down on the throttle button it also changes the direction of the motor.

Anybody have any thought what I am doing wrong?

Also, I ended up having neither of the functions work anymore and when I went back to re program the functions the CV values were blank. Should the T5000 show the current value for a CV or does it always show empty when in program mode?

I was using OPS mode if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance

First off " from airwire

Service Mode programming is the only form of programming understood
by the G2 decoder" this may be a good place to start. but for the sound use

Customizing Sound/Function Decoder CVs
Once the external decoder has its desired address programmed, you may now use OPS mode
programming to customize the various CVs. Remember that you must always use the
appropriate locomotive address in order to transmit the programming commands to the proper
locomotive. Dave the t500 does not show current cv values.

David are you use a function decoder also? are you wired like this http://www.phoenixsound.com/pdf/DCC97.pdf

Richard

Hi Richard, I am only using an Airwire G2 and the Phoenix Model 97 Sound card. I have not seen that document you gave a link for, I will read it tonight. Here is the diagram Phonex sent me and this is how I currently have it setup on my workbench, the only difference is the diagram is for an Airwire G3 and I am using the G2. According to the G3 and G2 manuals pins 5 & 6 seem to be the same on both (I could be wrong).

Dave i now see what there saying 5 & 6 are lights on the G2 thats why when you pushed the knob in you changed the lights from ft. to rear. to change the cv’s on a G2 you have to be in service mode. and the pins are not the same for a test just try pushing 0 than in on the knob.

i thank you need on the G2 pins 3&4
Richard

I switched the wires as you suggested and re programed CV61 and CV62 to button 1 and 4 respectively and these are the results I get:

Whistle:

If I press the #1 button once nothing happens, if I press it again the whistle blows, so I have to press the #1 button twice to get the whistle.

Bell:

If I press the #4 button the bell chimes, but it turns of the chuff, if I press the #4 button again the bell continues to chime and I get the chuff back. Pressing the #4 button twice quickly gets the bell to ring without losing the chuff.

Now I am working on the lights, it seems the G2 can barely run the stock lights that came with Loco, they are very dim (my battery could also be low, I am going to charge it tomorrow during the day and then re test.

Thanks
