Profile eye candy - Badges

Hi folks

I’ve turned on the ‘badges’ feature of the site. Badges are like mini-awards for doing things on the site. I have four of them right now.

Members who have been here for 1/5/10 years, and have been active in the last 14 days. And another for Freight Shed users.

You can view them in your (or anyone else’s) profile. You can also click the ‘badges’ link in the menu to browse who has what badge.

I’m particularly impressed that we have 28 members who have been here 10+ years.

I’m open for suggestions on other badge ideas.

I have only a one year badge. Should be a 5 year badge

I must talk to much if I have all those posts in 5 years

OOOPPPS: I must be cross eyed…now it says March 28th

That means I talk even more

Not that I particularly care what someone’s rating is or what badges they have, but you could use the “badges” as a way to encourage more modeling, verses just posting on threads. Scratch build a project and record it on LCS and you would “earn” the scratch building badge. That way you’re encouraging people to continue to model (thus keeping the noise ratio low) and providing a new comer to this site with information.

This site does much more modeling posts than other sites, and it should be encouraged so this forum doesn’t turn into a bunch of armchair modelers.

This is starting to sound like “Office Space”

Yea, that’s a neat idea. I was toying with adding badges for the modeling contest, too. “Entered” and “Won an award”…

Hmm

“Scratchbuilder” “Kitbasher”

Hmm…

I would suggest a set of badges called “Milestones”.

New modelers would get a milestone for things like laying enough track on their home layout to begin running trains. Or maybe finishing their first RC/batt conversion. Simple repaint on a piece of rolling stock. You know all of those basics you do before you start getting into serious conversions or scratch builds.

They could be listed in a way that provides a sort of basic outline for getting into the hobby.

Those are neat ideas, too. COOL!

Nice! Could these possibly be impacting site speed today. Seems rather sluggish again here today.

Much worse than sluggish here.

At times the page never comes up :frowning:

Wow, sorry about that folks. i dropped the site into development mode this morning to check aome issues and never switched it back. Development mode logs EVERYTHING and is incredibly slow because of that. Should be all set now.

Nice and speedy now. Thanks Bob.

Oh Boy, Merit Badges, just like Boy Scouts! Do we get a Totin’ Chip, too?

Tongue firmly planted in my cheek.

My grandson just earned his Bear last week.
