Problem with the 'other' LS forum?

I see these posting here and it’s like flashback time.

Sprocket seemed to be more interested in making babies for a while there than manning his site.

The enforcement of “the rules” was so stinking arbitrary it wasn’t even funny.

Remember the (if I say what was here, Bob will have a cow, man) incident?

I have a screen shot of that, saved…you or I had said that on the forums, we’d have been permanently bounced.

Sprocket was so proud that he found some kid who had never written forum software before to write all new software for them…and maybe you’ve forgotten how much trouble THAT was…and then they could not integrate the “archives”…(probably yet another WIN95 server) and the “fix” was to just eliminate the “archives”. Good fix.

Of course, the time there was a moderator who was fronting for a LS business…and encouraged everyone to look at page 34 of the latest GR and buy something…and not tell anyone he was a paid consultant…and none of the rest of us could do that…and that day…THAT DAY…I cancelled my advertising there, and never did it again.

Or the SPAM posting…allegedly a “female”, wanting to know where to find a specific electronic part (that was a bogus number anyway)…by part number…and we’d seen that before…it was a scam to get you to respond for e-mail harvesting at least…out of tiscali.fr…and we e-mailed Sprocket…told him it was a scam…and the response? “I am a professional. I do this for a living every day of the week. You folks don’t know anything! I checked it out, and its a legitimate e-mail address!”…to which I responded, “Oh, good. As long as it isn’t the scammers from tiscali.fr, you’re right, you know everything”.

10 minutes later the account was closed, the post was gone.

Selling the site off to VS when nobody knew was…well, showed total disrespect for those who had spent so many years posting photos, fixes, reviews…and everybody who had anything to do with VS knew to stay away.

Did you know VS does not allow deletion of accounts? Their marketing plan is to show advertisers the vast numbers of folks registered as users. Even those who have passed to the underside of the daisies.

Seen it in automotive forums…seen it on model forums.

Remember when VS got hacked, all the log-in stuff was taken? And they didn’t tell anyone for what, six months?
When I got the e-mail (finally), I told them they had lost all confidence, and to remove my log-in and profile from all forums.

I have the reply e-mails that stated they did so.

I have not even tried to log in.

The problems over there are self-inflicted.

Opinion.

No wonder I couldn’t find any “delete membership” options. Ya know… just in case. I’m currently limited myself to answering questions there from here on out, no more build threads there unless they manage to pull the rabbit out of the hat and restore my files…but I stopped expecting any resolution on that front a while ago.

Oh I understand the point (and power) behind Facebook. And that is where the youth go to for information these days. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a member; though not highly active. My point being that a lot of the things we do in this hobby take time, and FB is not as an effective tool as LSC or MLS for keeping that information in one central area where it is easy to follow along.

Chris

It would have helped if there was an archive format similar to what tumblr has.

For around 7 years I was very active on FB in several support groups for a couple different incurable illnesses I have; and occasionally looking at pages for MS which 2 aunts have. The “right now”-ness of the FB format was both a draw and a help; and, a gigantic hassle.

I won’t bore you with a lengthy vent, but after in 2015 the second time they screwed me over with their “Malware Checkpoint” program I have become an active enemy of FB.

If you have a spare moment, read the over two thousand angry comments there.

And then after doing that to my main account they demanded I send them photo id for returning access to my secondary account.

I don’t know who Sprocket is but if you didn’t like “his” website and crew then why didn’t you start your own website so we could all log into it and complain about it while you babysit it?

Just a thought
