Problem with aristo RS3

I have a RS3 that runs quite but has some surginess when running. I had a Lil-Critter that ran the same way but also made alot of noise. Is this a common problem with this aristo block? Also, is there anyway to fix it?

Phil,
Scrub a straight section of your track absolutely clean and shiny.
I mean with a piece of scotchbrite or a rubbing block.
Do the inside edges as well.
Then test run your engine over that bright shiny section.
If it runs smooth, your question is answered.

Step two is to open the motor blocks and check the drive shafts. If I remember correctly, FA’s and RS’s have an unusual drive with some pins and u-joints.

John,

I have already done both. I’m starting to lean toward it being a motor problem. I would like to know if others have had the same issues though.

Phil, I can’t say I’ve had your problem, but my FAs were torn apart prior to running them as they had sat in storage for a couple years, During the tear down I found weak solder joints on the wiring connections to the motor and from the truck pickups. These were single and double strand connections where the rest of the wire strands were broke at the joint. You might want to do a close check on these areas.

I’ll give it a look. I have not really looked too closely at the solder connections.
