Problem viewing the 'other site'

I know, not another post about problems seeing the other site, but I need help. I have always had an interest in the model making forum and recently the DCC forum on the other site but alas for many weeks now I can see everything on the site, including eBay adverts, sponsor adverts, forum header, indidual section index of contents but when I open an individual posting the area on the page where the posting would be is blank. Everything else is there except the centre of the page is blank, i.e., no posting replies.

Tim, did you try a different browser?

Greg

Greg,
thankyou for the reply. I only use I.E.7 browser. The problem occurred several weeks ago and ‘corrected’ itself. It then recoccurred a couple of weeks ago and remains a problem. Strange that I get everything else on the site except the actual individual postings. I get the index of topics for each forum section, but when I open up each individual item in the index, the centre of the page where the postings would be is a blank white background, surrounded by forum header, sponsor advert and eBay adverts.

Tim, of the 4 recent versions of IE, I would put IE7 at the bottom of the pile… it was very short lived… and we had the most problems with it. Any reason you cannot update to 8? Problems we had with 7 disappeared with 8. I’m guessing you are on XP, or perhaps Vista.

Another thing to check, although this probably not it, but latest version of Java, and not having more than one version of java installed.

Regards, Greg

Greg,
I just checked again and I am actually running IE8 on XP Professional. I always upgrade Java when prompted to do so and assume that the new software overwrites the older version. I would not know if I have multiple Java versions running. I will learn to live without the other site.

Tim,

Try one of the other browsers available. I have IE 7, Opera, Firefox, Sea Monkey, Safari and Chrome all installed on my Dell. I run several small web sites, and use them to make sure anyone can see what is there. I usually use either Firefox or Sea Monkey for my personal browsing. I just checked and have no issues using IE 7 to read the other forum.

Good luck with this.

Bob C.

Bob,
many thanks.

Tim does your XP have service pack 3 installed?

3 weeks ago I had 9 XP updates in one day, the next day there were 11 updates. Since then there have been at least two updates daily.

Tony,
yes, I do have SP3 installed. Alas, for ‘legal’ reasons (dodgy seller?) I am unable to access the software update download site (I am persona non grata).

What I don’t understand is why you didn’t ask that question over there ?

Nick,
possibly a rhetorical question, but I will respond. I was a fist class member for several years and contributed around 2000 postings, mostly in the Model making forum. Certain ‘admin’ individuals made life unpleasant and so I refuse to continue membership there. I always liked the model making section of the site and of late had been visiting the DCC forum. Did I answer your question?

Gotcha Tim.

It’s nice to see you over there on that forum Tim… I know what you mean, I have a moderator and his kool aid buddies trying to get rid of me over there.

'nuff on that.

Greg

Greg,

You just need to preach them the Gospel; they’ll see the light … eventually.

If Greg preached the gospel so they’ll see the light they might confused. I think it’s foggy where Greg lives!

Oooooooooooops!!!

Answer moved to correct thread.

Thanks Nick

Tony,
Did you post your reply in the wrong thread?

Heard that Scott is trying to not lose any of their forum data… sounds like they are converting to a new forum software… hope none of the good, informative posts are lost. When MLS changed forum software, we lost a bunch.
