Precision Board Structures

David

Thanks for your comment but, the aluminum sheeting I use is two times thicker than aluminum flashing,

flashing would be to flimsy for my personal taste.

Thanks

Dennis

Dennis yes, some of it is a bit flimsy. But they sell different gauges of it at the big box stores. And with some added reinforcement, some of your readers could use it instead of sourcing out the more expensive stuff you use.

BUILDING No 2

I have started another Precision Board Structure, this one is going to look like brick. The brick is for sure much easier to build be cause it requires

no hand carving of each stone.

Hey there! Your Precision Board HDU projects look amazing. We would love to do a blog or two on these with photos of the creation process and then final product. Are you interested? If so, please send an email to Tai at [email protected] to get the ball rolling. We haven’t done a lot with garden railroad projects recently. We do have some blogs on Rainbow Ridge, who makes and sells Precision Board HDU model railroad house kits. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, Tai. Never heard of these guys before. This building kit list is quite inspirational:

Rainbow Ridge Kits

Cliff yes they have many nice kits.

Really nice Dennis! A bit more “tidy” than some of your cliffhangers (for example). One of the things I like about your builds are the realistic colors. Here, all the different forms of brick or “stucco” or rock trim look like they should: not too red or too white or too dark. Just right. Did you have a baby bear helping you?

Will you be adding tons of little details to this (another thing you are great at)? What did you decide this building will be (from a signage point of view)?

The Name

Thanks Jim, yes i got the name! I played with this one for a while, so I came up with the name. Then I wanted something very unique to accent

the ends.

NOW THE FENCE

I am going to fasten the structure to a 16 gauge metal base, so when outside the wind will not blow away.

Then I want a wooden fence around the sides and back, on the right side i will have a little shooting area.

Nice fence! I’m looking forward to all the stuff you will put in there.

Pete’s Pistol Packing Palace is awesome. An old friend told me once, after I had overused the letter M, that “alliteration is absolutely awful” so I’ve avoided it a bit (though my last project was Mackenzie’s Mercantile, so I guess I’m still stuck on M’s).

And that’s a spacious and awesome looking workshop you have there! Jealous I am.

Thanks Jim, I thought about your friends comment that all alliterations is an absolutely awful awkward absence of thought. O heck being truthful, I have

never heard of the word and had to look up the meaning. BUT, this ole semple miended countrie boy is luckei to put a few werds Togehter that makess eny since, and most of thim are messpeled, and soundes sillie end shamefulle senceless … (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Wew Thathere koncocksion of werds wass fun.

Yes I am looking forward to completing the scene around the 4P Gun shop. I love making highly detailed scenes that can be left outside for a short time that will not be ruined by the elements. That can be placed into their location, QUICKLY, without getting down on my rarely used hands and knees position.

I have always been disappointed in the lack of use of lots of details in GRR and fully understand why, but this is my way of fulfilling my desire for details.

Again thank you for your thoughtful compliments.

Dennis

Geez Dennis this stuff is amazing. You are really giving Ray a run for his money on this precision board series you have been doing. Maybe we need a LSC build-off between the two of you.

In any event I am really digging your process on this material. Thanks for all the great ideas.

What Jim and Boomer said!

I’m sure enjoying all your work Dennis. Love the fence, what material and how are you graining it?

I like your sign title, and am trying to imagine a figure representing “Pete” that might be sitting on a step or leaning against a door…

Thanks Boomer and Cliff,

Boomer to me it is an HONOR to even be compared to Ray, I love Ray’s modeling, He is still the better modeler. I will not put forth the

time and effort he does. THANKS for your compliments.

Cliff , Thanks for your compliments. Wood – It is Poplar, I have lots of it, scrap from work. I had ripped strips 30 plus inches long

clamped to a work table, with wire brush in cordless drill, and textured as you see it. i place 8 pieces in a bundle taped together with

a spiral of masking tape. then cut to length on a band saw. Easy way to cut a lot of pieces quickly.

Dennis

This is who I thought of when I say the name !

Here’s my version of Pete, not sure why…

Log Cabins

I have been wanting to design a log cabin type structure. As a fan of the program Barn Builders I am a fan of the flat faced

log structures. Not doing the dovetail type locking ends, I have come up with a log looking structure that has the look that

satisfies my desire for log structures.

The above picture shows the walls together, before the chinking has been placed. Chinking is the material used to fill the gap between the logs.

Below has the chinking installed, which is no more than white paint.

Very nicely done, Dennis. Very realistic. Interested to see what you do with the roof.
