I was searching the internet for information about the Panama Pacific International Exposition of 1915 for a class paper, trying to find information about the interesting miniature models that were built for the World’s Fair (they built a 5 acre model of the Panama Canal Zone!). I knew that a miniature railroad existed, but didn’t know much about it. Then I ran across this page. http://sprr.calpoly.edu/index.html It’s the original 19 1/2" gauge (1/3 scale) locomotives still in service. The locomotives weighed 13 tons! Here’s a PDF that explains more about the history of the PPIE and the miniature trains. http://sprr.calpoly.edu/NewsletterArchives/2010/SPRR%20Newsletter.10.pdf I thought this might be interesting to everyone here. I may stumble upon more information in the micro film tomorrow when I start researching a little deeper.
