Power pickups on trucks for tender?

When I get around to detailing my LGB Porter, I’d like to add a small tender with power pickups so I can get rid of the skates under the loco. What type of trucks would be suitable for this?

Aristo sells trucks that have power pickups and lead wires, but they are modern Bettendorf style trucks, not older archbar style.

I would use Aristo ball bearing wheel sets. They have power pickup tab on them. I put them in my C-16’s and the run better than ever now. The other option is to install some plunger type pick ups but they can be quite the drag  .

Why would you want to do this? Batteries!

If it’s a porter, then the tender will be small as well.
Aristo wheels are huge! Your tender will look like a monster truck!

Raymond makes a 1/24 size BB wheel with pick-ups which I used on my little scratched porter tender.
Still too big, but not as bad as a full size G wheel.

LGB wheels seem bigger than aristo wheels to me–I haven’t measured, but they look it.

Jay-Bee makes FRR sleeve bearing with power pickups and fit very nicely in my toy train tender and some FRR cars with the small LGB wheel sets.

[email protected] was my contact for these, i hope he still is in business.

I’m getting some ball bearing pickups on small wheels from Gary Raymond. He can do any wheel size for you. Nice guy to talk to, might try him out.
