Large Scale Central

Potlach and Bovil RR

Just to show that I do more than rouse the rabble, here are some pics of what I have accomplished this summer. I decided to get away from the ladder method and go to the Pressure Treated method, primarily because i had trouble finding wood that was the same size.

I’ve had no problem with frost heave, even using only deck blocks with their 6X6 inch foot print.

Gunny wants to play, too. The extended PT wood will support some building of various ilk, once I get them done.

The yellow step is just a temporary support, while the deck block is permanent.

That’s my train watching chair.

End of the line, for now…

Gunny and Honey are great helpers, especially when they stay on the other side of the fence.

New roadbed, ready for ballast.

Abandoned roadbed will be re-opened, soon.

More to come before the snow flies.

Looking good. I envy your space!

How long is it? Have you posted a track plan?

Looking good. It is great having all that space/. I have 9 acres but my problemi s no money for track. NJ taxes kill me. Everyones RR look so much bigger than mine. Im sooooo jelouse of everyone. Wish I could make my line bigger. Maybe some day.

Looks like the abandoned roadbed has become a dog trail. You might have some trouble reclaiming it!

Gee Shawn, I'm jealous of you. We started work about the same time and your RR has a "finished" look while my railroad still looks like a construction zone! I feel for you as far as the price of track. I have the same problem. Which is why I have to make do with the R1 curves..for now. Ralph

That’s because you spend too much on here with us rabble rousers and not enough time playing outside. I have the space too, just insufficient capitol to expand the enterprise.

Your looking good there, Steve…keep us posted on your progress.

You guys are a lot of fun. I have to play by myself outside. :( Ralph

Hey Guys,
The bigger, the more work and maintenance.
I had over an acre to use for my rr. I shortened it down to about 80 x 100 feet.
It prolly should even be smaller!
It just means more track and more plants if you go big.

That’s all you got done this year, Steve?

jb

Well, jb, I don’t have a bobcat to help out like someone I could name…

Looks good Steve. Is that a sandbox?

Might be, Brian, once it’s finished.

How do you provide drainage for it? I don’t see any drain holes and I assume it’d be filling with water all the time–no?

It looks great, by the way–nice long runs

The PT is placed so the crown is up. The water runs to the sides of each board, then down between. It then filters through the “weed cloth” which is held up by 1/2 inch hardware cloth supported by 2X4s on 16 inch centers. I stole the idea from Richard Smith.

A nice looking railroad, good work… thanks for sharing…
