So how does one post a photo here? I’ve tried, but I get a small box that asks for a URL or something. It doesn’t give the option of searching for a picture I have saved on my computer. I have an Apple computer.
You have to upload the picture to a web server first, such as Yahoo, Photobucket, Tripod, etc., then copy that URL where it’s located and paste it in that box.
It should give you a URL something like this:
You must first have the photo published to an online source such as your freight shed here on LSC. Then you add the url of it’s location in the window you mentioned when you select the insert picture option (the green tree) from the reply window.
Use your freight shed, you get a small one when you join. Put your pics there, link to thread. Use tree icon to insert.
Thanks guys, I’ll give it a go.

I always respect the 800 width, but often cheat the 600 height by quite a bit when I have a portrait shot that I want to post at full width. So far no complaints from the peanut gallery or nasty grams from our BD.
I’ve often wondered if a picture that tall can be viewed on the average screen without scrolling. I run a large monitor at 1920x1080 so it fits on my screen just fine!
Note to Dan P: In the Website forum there is s sticky Picture Posting Help that you may wish to read.
Let me know if I need to add instructions on how to upload a photo to your Free Freight Shed.
Dan, this is late, as usual, but here’s my two cents worth. After reading many of the how-to posts, I was still having trouble because the terminology used by the posters wasn’t the same as my computer program was giving me. I don’t recall what the other guys told you to right click (“Copy” or whatever), but in my case it’s “Copy Shortcut.” What I do is get the image into Freight Sheds from “Pictures” on my computer. Then once the picture shows up on my Freight Sheds list, I just scoll onto that line and right click on said image, go to my post, click on the tree icon, which gets you that box asking for the url and all that stuff I don’t understand. Right click “Paste,” and you should see the line representing your image appear in the top box. Choose size, like the guys said above. I hate to be a space hog, so unless my photo really deserves a whole page, I pick some lower number like, oh, 150 x 200, which makes the photo smaller. Be carefull with that though. If ya make the number too low for one of the dimensions, you’ll get a squeezed image in whatever plane (horizontal or vertical) you put the lowest number in.
I pre-size at home so I keep the full size copy in my pc. I use a free program for editing and sizing.
The program preserves the ratio, I just adjust the width.
John
I do the same. The full sized pictures are in a file, and the reduced sized pictures are in another file, so I know what I uploaded to dis plaze
I also pre-size on my Mac and then upload to my Freight Shed.
If you have any difficulties just give a yell!
How many times I gotta tell ya, I don’t do all that pre-sizing stuff becuz I am lay-zee. Sure, I have all the Photoshop programs, but that involves work. For which I’m not being paid. Plus I am retired. Or sometimes, just tired. But thanks for the (free) advice. Or “advise,” as some would say. Like al-u-min-ium.
advice:
noun: ədˈvīs/advice
guidance or recommendations concerning prudent future action, typically given by someone regarded as knowledgeable or authoritative.
advise:
verb /ədˈvīz/: advise
offer suggestions about the best course of action to someone.
Two different words meaning different things
I use Irfanview to resize pictures, its a free program and its a snap to resize pictures with. Photoshop can be kind of cumbersome to resize with.

How do I post a proper link to YouTube with a preview?
[ youtube]***[ /youtube] and use the “SHARE” URL for the Youtube video to replace ***.
Note: delete the space after [. I had to put it there so the code would show up in this post.
