Posting photographs

How do we go about posting a photo ?

Welll, I upload the photo file onto a sharing site like photobucket, or even to a back page on the web forum I administer… then just use the direct address (http -blah blah.com/ whatever, jpg) and they pop right up in the post.

I think Bob rents space on his server rather cheaply, too

Dan, an example of one of my photo posts is as follows:

http[:]//www[dot]gscalejunkie[dot]com/GeneralPics/6000Flat/photo_file_name[dot]jpg

Note: Square brackets and spelled out dot are to keep the link from going live. Do not include them in your post if you type out the address.

This is assuming you know the full domain name and path to the file you are going to post. In my case the http://www[dot]gscalejunkie[dot]com is the full path name of the domain (in this case I own the domain). The /GeneralPics/6000Flat/ is the path to the file. I am working (slowly) on a site and separate the photos for my posts in the demonstrated sub folders. And finally, the photo_file_name[dot]jpg is the name of the photo I want to include in the post. Make sure there are NO SPACES in the file name. Notice I used the underscore where one might have normally used a space.

Remember to down size all you photos to 800 x 600 before posting. It helps keep page loading times down and keeps the pic all in the boarders of the forum width.

If you are using the Freight Shed, there is a tutorial on the forum for how to do that. I believe that Photo Bucket and the other storage sites also have tutorials / instructions on how to link to their services. I admit, having my own place to put pictures has me spoiled.

If you need help scaling the pictures to the 800 x 600 size, shoot me an email and I will walk you through it step by step. It is dreadfully easy if you are still using XP. I am not real familiar with 7, but will figure it out on the wife’s laptop.

Hope this helps.
