Alan,

Your link goes to a health site.

Here is a link to the story from the New York Times…

Alan, I think there was a letter left out, probably should be foxnow

Just did some shopping there two weeks in a row. And plan on going there today! Not going to let these terrorists tack the fun out of my hobby.

Thanks for posting another newspaper report Joe. I will delete my post.

Cash folks Cash !!!

Nick, I second that. My credit car information cannot be compromised if I don’t use it.

Besides, over 4 years ago I had plastic surgery. They removed all my credit cards when I filed for bankruptcy.

Apparently we are the only civilized country in the world still using magnetic strips for credit cards, everyone else uses chip embedded cards, which are much more difficult to rip-off. Also apparently its cheaper to deal with massive data thefts and angry consumers than to switch over tens of millions of credit card readers to the new chip readers and issue tens of millions of new chip cards. Maybe these events will finally spur some action.

Vic, I hate to burst your bubble, but those chips are easier to steal than the magnetic strip. Anyone with a laptop (high end smart phone, netbook, etc.) with the right software and a reader can snatch your card information standing next to you in a crowd and you will be none the wiser. You will also find that this type of theft is almost impossible to detect and less possible to detect. I will keep my magnetic strip thank you, and be watchful of my credit references.

The more we rely on technology for our currency, the more susceptible to fraud and theft we become.

The latests European chip are encrypted and those ecryption are very hard to decifer, that why foriegn crooks LOVE the US and our 1980s era technology, were just the low lying fruit of crims

I had my chip cards replaced as I was under the impression that they could be remotely read.

They can be!

I’m not sure it would make any difference what kind of card was used. In these recent breaches, the info was stolen out of the retailer’s system. The retailer is going to get that info off your card regardless of whether the card uses a strip or a chip.

Thats very true Ray. It really doesn’t matter how good your fence is, if the fox has already tunneled into the henhouse.

That’s a hell of a face lift!!

Makes me glad I have a fraud detection service. I got hit a couple years ago and I decided then that I would spend the money on the fraud service. They have caught things in the past so it seems to work well.
