Working on G-scale project for new church…Cool eh? Anyway, there are several square holes placed in the sheet rock for me that are 12" high X 15" wide. I want to model some stone Portals out of 2" foam board. I have never tried this but I’m eager to start. Got a Soldering iron and the 2" board so I’m ready to start. I go the thick 2" because it’s what I got at a discount at Lowe’s. Was like $23 retail but the dude marked it down to $10 because it was scratched, hehe, sometimes all you have to do is ask! Here’s the question… What are correct G-scale dimensions on a Portal’s width and height? Running a single line main track. Any additional info to assist is greatly appreciated.

Which “G-scale” are you modelling??
Have a look at this it may help.
UH… well, we have a kid’s program called Adventureland so I am going to have the Jungle theme. Coke engine with Polar bear Engineer, Zebra cars and lots of wild animals. Thanks for the link. It gives me the correct size opening but that Portal is U G I ly!
John, you’re welcome.
Don’t worry about how ugly it is, put Zebra Stripes on it and it will fit your theme.
If there is a chance you will be running modern equipment I would suggest that the opening be somewhat higher. You may wish to go to 11" in height if it needs to pass double stacks. Aristocraft has a portal. Why don’t you check out their site and see if they have dimensions for it there.
Aristo’s Single Portal is 8" wide by 9" high.
thanks!
One thing to bear in mind is whether the track going through the portal is straight or curved. A curve may require wider clearance.
Yogi taught me everything I know about the Tippi hot wire foam cutter - http://users.stratuswave.net/~wd8jik/foamcutter/foamcutter.htm I have use it often including for this little station for a nephew -
