PNG Drop Bottom Gondola

Easy enough, Bruce. I had to lop about 1/8" or a bit more off the end of the rod, and the new handles slipped right on. I already had the old pawl mounted, and didnt want to pry it off, so I left it.

Now to do the other 11 car ends…

The lag bolts look much more believable.

Finally finished them. I think they’re ready for delivery!

Hmmmmmmmmm, Chandler Car & Foundry…has a nice ring to it…

Beautiful!

And now we know where they’re going  Super job Bruce. Doug will love them.

Anyone know if anybody makes lag screws in the #0, #1 or #2 sizes out of steel instead of brass? I occasionally, well, ok, about 1/3 of the time, break them off while putting them in. Steel would be better, for me at least.

Hehe. I’ve got one head stuck in the nut driver. BUT, that’s the only one that I broke. I’ve since gone to drilling a bit larger hole. I haven’t found anything but the brass ones on Micro Mark.

Yea, I did that, too. Broke it off right at the head, and it torqued in the nut driver. Had to drill a hole in it and use a dental pick to get the pieces out.

Try Micro Fasteners their on the WEB and listed in GR.

OK, I just check them out and NO they do not have HEX head Lags period! I wonder if Tacoma Screw has them, I’ll check the next time I’m near their store here in Bremerton.

And Bruce they are beautyful cars. To bad I could not have them, you aee I’m a clutz!! And I would break them.

Its a major past-time for me. I often use oak or maple for car frames (since thats what I have the most of in the wood rack currently), and occasionally I don't drill the pilot hole 1) deep enough 2) big enough 3) enough.

Maybe you should cut back on your spinach consumption............;)

When ever i use brass screws i always use a stainless screw to cut the threads into the wood and then install the brass screws. It takes a little longer but you dont brake screws.

I guess those freakish forearms aren’t the only side effect of spinach addiction.
