Plywood sheathed boxcars

Hi Guys,

I was just looking over Bob Hayden’s article in the latest gazette"0n30 plywood sheathed boxcars, and thought this would make a great 120.3 project. I think Bob’s story refers to two foot Maine cars. Now for my question, does anyone know of any of the three foot roads covering wooden boxcars with plywood? I beleave the C & S did but cannot find any info on them. Any help or comments on this would be appreciated.

I have two of the 30 ft EBT boxcar kits, and with some styreen strips could make 2 of these cars. They woiuld be a change from the scribed siding boxcars we are used to seeing.

Well Chuck…Can’t comment on real world three footers (Bobs story is fictional BTW his C&DR is so well known that people just think its a real railroad) …but I know for a fact that the West Virginia & Kentucky’s NG line built some plywood sheathed 40 foot boxcars with dreadnought ends before and during WWII to handle wartime traffic…

Thanks Bart,

Would you have a picture of one of those 40 footers, or any other info about them ?
