Plowing the Housatonic RR

Photos courtesy of John Bazan… After last weeks 24+ inches, the HRRC sent out a single engine to clear the line. Seen here blasting through a snowbank at Ashley Falls, MA.

Housatonic RR GP35 3601 plows up a storm as it clears the track near the Rossiter Street grade crossing in the town of Great Barrington, Mass., on Thursday, January 13.

Great pics jon!

Agreed, but not mine. Taken and posted at NE Rail by John Bazan. HRRC GP35 3601 slams through a snowbank at the Willow Street grade crossing in the town of South Lee, Mass., on Thursday, January 13.

Really nice light and sky on this one: Housatonic RR train NX-13 is seen idling on the wye track just south of the historic Canaan Union Station on a frigid but sunny Thursday, January 13.

cool photos, Jon

Neat but dangerous. when we plowed out the Naugy there were several grade crossings so packed with snow it started to lift the traction motors/wheels off the rails and almost hung up the engine. i would not want to do this at speed.

Fine photos. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Ralph

Good Stuff Jon!

I had the same thought Al. The engineer was the Superintendent of Operations - so if he derailed there was no one to fire over it :) When looking at the pictures you can't tell the snow consistency. These were shot on the 14th and the snow was very fluffy and light, except at the grade crossings.

Beautiful pics!

Man - I wish I could get out to the railroad after a fresh snow. John Bazan gets more great shots this week. Here Housatonic RR train NX-11 is seen passing the old station at Kent CT heading south for Danbury and points East…
