Plow action without plow

Are there snow drifts in Canada … does the bear …?

Very cool Hans. At about the 40 second mark I thought the camera guy should take a step back…

Same clip on CBC with a location Salisbury, N.B.

I would love to see footage of that from in the cab. I have always said I will actively hunt for footage like this when we get a big snow storm and never do. Very cool.

Yeah first saw it run on CBCNational I burst out laughing when the snow buried the camera.

Figurin’ the cam’person should know better than to be that close. That said probably on a tripod !

Notice how (if not completely) ‘blind’ the cab crew is with their own mini-snowdrift on the front hood, right in front of their windows !!!

Doug, yea I was thinking that for the second where there wasn’t a plume of snow in front of the locomotive. Where there was a plume of snow in front of the locomotive, I was wondering how the heck the engineer was going to be able to see any signals. He has his own self-induced blizzard going on there.

Here is the CBCNational clip;

p.s. wish I could find the original posting, as i don’t think ‘maniac video’ (based on their catalog) is the original ‘VJ’ !! Presuming m’v’ is someone who surfs thru the ‘net snagging clips from other sources w/o giving appropriate cred’ !? imho

Ahhhh here is THE one we should be watching since it does indicate licensing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yja2VmZOfdA and if ya hit “show more”… details/info of vid’.

"For licensing and usage, contact: [email protected] "

Hans if ya still can, I recommend changing your link to the supposed original (!?), so ‘containerman’ gets paid for his vid’ capture and sharing …

imho

p.s. heading back to ‘mv’ channel to post the link to the original ! And also try to notify ‘containerman’ about the possible infringement by ‘mv’.

Doug,

I changed the link; with 2,125,042 hits he won’t worry much about a few more or less.
BTW he was in the perfect location, cam on a tripod and hopefully wearing full winter gear with a hood on the mountain jacket. Hans, I think the location was great too, but I would have been standing behind some kind of plexi glass shield. I was just waiting for there to be a big cunk of ice in the road plow leavings that would fly into the photogapher.

Good point Randy! Perhaps I should add that to my railfanning arsenal, too. Either that or find a reasonably safe place to park and get the camera rolling by remote.

Yeah it’s the unknowns of what might be coming at ya especially thru a whiteout situation. Even in the clear ya got to keep your eyes open and a good distance away from the tracks, as a CP signals tech’ (gull lake, sask.) reminded me. Since ya never know when a chunk of load or rolling stock may come unattached and fly ! He mentioned seeing/finding all sizes and types of material (usually within the r/w) that have come off the trains.

p.s. CTVCalgary included the vid within their evening news ‘what’s trending’ segment last night. The anchors really enjoyed the vid …all parts of it but especially when the cam’ is overcome by the blowout ! They played it a couple times. Also CBCCalgary played it during their p.m. news. I wonder if any international news hours picked it up ?

It’s been picked up by a news source in Switzerland

My wife who could care lest about tains told me she saw it on Facebook when I shwed it to her (of course I iasked why she didn’t show me… she just shrugged).

That is what you would call going viral and with good reason! The is a cool video! As of Saturday morning the original is up to almost four million watches! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

4.125 million and counting. Interestingly it was missing from the CN FB Group , so I just needed to add it.
