Not trying to be a spoilsport, but it is very difficult to find a thread in “Modelling” that isn’t related to the ‘build challenge’. Please keep putting “Challenge” in the title so I can skip them!
Pete,
In the spirit of friendship, just skip all of mine, I won’t mind.
Sorry if I got in your way.
Be Blessed.
John
You’re missing a lot if you’re skipping the “Challenge Builds”. Very nice work and some good tips.
Aw! c’mon Pete, what else you going to do with your leisure time? Watch boring tv? lol
Humm the ‘challenge’ got me off my rear end and started working on modeling again. Not sure if I’ll complete the building in time, but it provided motivation that was lacking. Plus it’s one more structure built for the future layout…
Pete,
How come your skipping the build challenges? Not interested? Just curious as I haven’t see this much ‘traffic’ on the modeling section in a while.
Craig, I am with you. This has gotten me building again, and the gas station is needed, or will be needed, when the towns spring up on my railroad.

Hey, I miss a lot just by turning off my computer. I’ve been looking at threads about buildings for donkey’s years. (I usually take a glance at yours though - always interesting.)
The real reason is that I don’t have a railroad, so I don’t need buildings so why read about them when there are so many other pressing items on the list? Living in condos lets me make models, but not of buildings. I have an Aster Mogul, (EBT #1), another Hartford hopper, a Deltran r/c throttle and assorted other “kits” to deal with. Buildings - not this year.
Pete you could make yourself some building flats to put behind your stuff. Especially if its on display shelves. The skills will come in handy when you do start a layout.
I was going to post a remark about properly labeling all threads so folks don’t “have” to read about what they are not interested in. After all, not everyone is interested in steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, traction equipment, standard gauge equipment, narrow gauge equipment, boring tunnels, building bridges, landscaping., gardening, civil engineering, drainage, ponds, prototype operation, radio control, and the list goes on…
But, sometimes, skimming over a thread that is on a subject matter you aren’t interested in, you might actually learn something, I know I do. Besides, if it truly doesn’t interest you, close the window and move on.
Just my 2 cents
As long as I don’t have to spell it right.

Vic,
I think you are missing something here
I’ve had 1/2 dozen layouts since I was 7 yrs old. Some had buildings on them, some were outdoors and I never got around to the buildings. In any case, the reason for the condo(s) is that I’m now old and retired so not making buildings suits me fine.
I think this was my second layout, in 1960. Notice the buildings!
Neat, is that Marklin AC 3 rail track?

Nope, that’s the original Triang 2-rail OO scale track. A bit like modern ‘setrack’ or whatever B’mann calls it. The loco and coaches are ancient, first-generation Triang plastic.
I have a stock of Brit OO track by Hornby and Triang. All the rail is steel. It needs very little cleaning compared to brass. I wonder why N.A. manufacturers have clung to brass when the constant cleaning it is so annoying, and its color of course is just plain weird…
For the occasional HO setups I do for the grandkids I don’t have to concern myself with the old cleaning nonsense. I love that.
Oh, one more thing, that Brit track was darned inexpensive. I love that too!
Cheers everyone!
