To me it looks like a rather generic 4-4-0 American. Maybe the Central Pacific Jupiter or the Union Pacific 119 of Golden Spike fame.
eh, the wheelbase looks awfully short for it to be one of them. And a 2 axle tender isn’t a common North American prototype. If its actually based on something, I would suspect its a narrow gauge something.
Norman,
Nope, it’s a toy.

Gee John go and ruin it.
Does anyone besides me think the name “Steaming Mary” seems a little off color and almost little offensive? I am sure it is not meant as suc but almost seems like a slang term for a steaming pile of doo doo. I don’t like that name.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Sometimes ya gotta put on yer big boy pants…
I thought it was a Proud Mary rip off…
For that price you are better off getting the Hartland 4-4-0 or Bachmann.
I would get a used LGB mogul for that price, or even a forney.
Isn’t is amazing what toy collectors will pay to support their hobby! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

We could give a guy a hard time about spending 200+ for a toy train but then what do we say to the guy who spends $1500+ for an Accucraft scale replica model. Because truth be told If I could afford it I would b the proud owner of an Accucraft 2-6-0. I never will criticize a man for buying what he wants. So I too choose (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)
Sorry but a Playmo-bile does not inspire visions of greatness…
Yes some folks will only buy if it seems overpriced. 2 copies, 1 three times the cost of the other. Big Daddy will pay extra expecting 3x the fun, I know folks like that.
I didn’t diss the price, I rejected the scale or authenticity of the depiction.
John
In all reality John, your really the only one that actually answered the original question. I tried but admittedly was reaching. Norman asked about prototype and in reality it likely has none. In fairness to him he never once said anything about buying it.
I like Norman, I also chose 1:24 and have a Hartland 4-4-0 and the Aristo C-16.
Even the 4-4-0 is toylike because the boiler is one course short, thus the pilot wheels are too close to the drivers…
but mebbe if I don’t mention it, you won’t notice.
John
Hi Devon and John:
I bought a few of these. Yes I know, too much money for what it is. Simply captured my imagination. The loco is cute. I have several Bach 4-4-0 locos ( bought when they were being blown out for a song ) but I want this loco for a couple of kit bashes to then run on a table layout. The only loco I can think of that looks like this toy is the two Disneyland 4-4-0 locos built by Walt Disney for his Disneyland RR.
However, this is the webpage for my inspiration of the Steaming Mary kit bash:
Locomotive number 190 of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern.

Given the current super high street pricing of all new Bachmann G products, my future purchases will now be in the O Gauge two rail and three rail product lines. The MTH and Lionel locos all have super electronic features the most important of which is the puffing smoke and laboured chuff. Bachmann, now producing the Williams product line, has the technology and therefore there is no excuse for Bachmann to not be including synchronised puffing smoke in the G steam locos.
Williams trains has ceased production. I wonder if this is due to the competition from the Bachmann product line or if O Scale also is not selling like it used to similar to the G marketplace ?
Norman
Sorry, Weaver ceased production, not Williams !
