Large Scale Central

Playmobil, An Observation

I started this topic over on G Scale central. I’m curious as to what our position is on this side of the pond.

I don’t think many of us give Playmobil the respect it deserves, in my opinion. Have a look at this

I have purchased odds and ends pieces of Playmobil over several years. Mostly for my grandchildren top use. But I have taken note of the amount of detail, for lack of a better word, that Playmobil items have. Other than a caricature look, there are numerous accessories that go with the figures in the way of clothing and items they can hold that make the figures believable.

I was made fun of, in a friendly way, when I placed some Playmobil figures in my garden railway. I thought they fit right with the scale, although as I mentioned, in a caricature manner. And there is much more diversity than the standard “G” scale figure assortment produced by any single manufacturer. The other plus is their cost.

They have some neat stuff! Amazing veriety

I have the fishing boat that was shown near the ferris wheel in the port. I can leave it out all the time. It is as you say, simple and lacking in detail but it makes a decent prop to decorate my dock scene. It is more Danish or German styled but fits well enough in Maine.

I like the way you can easily uncouple the playmobil cars and all cars have double hook and loops.

I bought a set and it came with LGB track.

Nice ! Now to figure out how to make it operate via R/C

Dan, since you seem to be the Playmobil authority here, on the latest battery set with the yellow engine, on the speed controller, when you turn the knob to run the engine can you set the controller down and let it run or does it have, like the Lionel battery sets, a springed control knob that returns it to stop automatically?

Something like this would be interesting for shows where power hookup might not be available.
