Plastic track

I want to build a new siding this year and extend a couple others – on a budget.

I’m eyeing my LGB brass flex track in my train barn and am wondering if I can use that and replace it with plastic track.

Who’s happy (or unhappy) with it?

Doug,
I have no personal experience, but have heard high temperatures can cause problems with the plastic track.
I think you could get aluminum track for just a little more than the plastic track and use the aluminum in your barn.

Doug,

in the train storage anything goes.
i have even seen pics, where somebody used wooden “beams”.

i myself have used curtain rails to replace scarce track in the invisible backstage areas. - http://kormsen.ko.funpic.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=434

or you could look for rectangular cable channels. (here we got one type, that has exactly 45mm between sidewalls)

It really expands in the sun and heat. If you give it room for expansion you will probably be fine… secure the rails to the ties every so often. One guy had terrific problems because he did not give it any room for expansion.

Sidings should be no sweat.

Funny, because this guy normally uses cement roadbed and bolts everything down… hmm…

Doug,

Here is my experience with the plastic rails - very satisfied.
