Plastic to styrofoam

I need to glue plastic to styrofoam in a 1 foot by 4 foot area. Total coverage, but it will go on in mostly 3 by 3 inch squares. What glue would you use? I’m thinking maybe Goop. Your thoughts?

Weldbond!

Contact cement? Styrofoam is pretty easily dissolved by many glues. Test a piece for a few hours beforehand.

Honestly Ric,my Washington St station stop(in front yard) was glued with Testors contact cement as Bob stated and has lasted quite well year round outside.

You can get contact cement designed for use on Styrofoam. Works pretty well, in my experience. I wouldn't touch regular contact cement for this job.

You can also try foam adhesive, comes in a tube for a caulking gun. Found in the caulking section.

I was thinking of something like that. I'm feeling I'm going to have to move the plastic around a little to get it in place and concerned about contact cement doing that "instant, un-moveable hold" that it is famous for. Styrofoam will be laying flat when this is applied, so I can put weight on it until glue kicks.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas. The double back tape idea went the way of the contact cement as far as being able to adjust position.

I’ve used hot glue on the pink foam, but it has a higher melting temperature than Styrofoam. Might be worth a try.

Up at local lumber company dealing with other stuff (work related) and checked out what was in the glue section. Titebond has a foam to plastic cement. Tried some and it worked pretty good. Dries quick and seems to hold well without deteriorating the foam. Does have some reaction on the styrene, but like all the glues it melts it a little bit and seems to weld it together. It does come in caulking tubes and it is a little hard to control. If you try to work off a puddle of it, it skins over pretty quick and isn’t very workable.

How about Foam Safe CA?

Ric,
Whenever I am in doubt about sticking things together I always try the
aquarium grade silicone and it always works.
I don’t remember ever trying it on styrofoam though.
Just a thought
